NFL Sunday Washington Redskins at Pittsburgh Steelers: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-120986078_crop_exact

NFL Week 8 continues on Sunday and we will see the Washington Redskins travel to Western, Pa to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM (Eastern) start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have Pittsburgh favored by 4 points while the total sits at 44.5.  Currently 72% of the Public is on Washington, while 72% is on the Over. Find out what side the Public is taking on all the games by clicking HERE.

Free Analysis: Washington was among the league’s worst a season ago and found themselves trading up in the draft to select Griffin which has paid immediate dividends as he appears to be the quarterback of the future and will surely be a Pro Bowl talent for many years to come.  Griffin boasts an NFL-best 70.4 completion percentage, is third in quarterback rating (101.8) and has rushed for the second-most TDs (6) in the league. He will not have the services of starting TE Fred Davis, who is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles' tendon, and top WR Pierre Garcon, who is out indefinitely with a foot injury. Rookie Alfred Morris (658 yards, 5 TDs) has been one of the biggest surprises, trailing Houston’s Arian Foster by just one yard for the rushing lead. Not surprisingly, the Redskins are the NFL’s best rushing team at 177.7 yards per game.  Defensively, Washington has allowed at least 293 passing yards in every game and 325+ yards in each of the past three contests. On the bright side, its run defense has been stingy all season, allowing just 85 rushing YPG (7th in NFL). But it could be missing top LB London Fletcher, who is questionable with a hamstring injury. The Redskins continue to make big plays though, with 16 forced turnovers in their seven games.

Pittsburgh is seeking to win two straight for the first time this season after a come-from-behind 24-17 win over Cincinnati. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been bitten by the injury bug on a number of occasions this season, but reinforcements are on the way. All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey (leg, questionable), as well as running backs Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles, probable) and Isaac Redman (knee, questionable) may return this week. Roethlisberger ranks fifth in the NFL in passer rating (98.6) and has won 11 of his past 12 home starts dating back to last season. He and top WR Mike Wallace still don't seem to be on the same page. Despite 27 targets over the past three weeks, Wallace has just 163 receiving yards, with more than half of that (82) coming from one catch. Jonathan Dwyer will get the start at running back. He had a huge game in Cincinnati last Sunday night, rumbling for 122 yards on just 17 carries (7.2 YPC). Pittsburgh ranks second in the NFL in passing defense (185 YPG), but could be missing another safety in addition to Polamalu, as Will Allen is nursing an ankle injury. The Steelers have forced multiple turnovers in a game just once all season, as their seven takeaways is tied for the fifth-fewest in the NFL.

Free Pick: The Steelers played very good defense vs the the Cincinnati and I feel they can do it again in this one. There could be potential for bad weather in this game with high winds and that could very well slow down the Washington pass game.  The Skins are the top rushing team in the league, but they are about to face the 9th ranked rushing defense of the Steelers so that run game should struggle as well. The Steelers also rank 2nd vs the pass so this Washington offense could be in for a long day. On the other side the Pittsburgh offense has been decent this year but the do struggle to run the ball (26th). They will get back Mendenhall for this one and that will help. Once the running game gets going then Big Ben should have some easy throws vs the worst ranked pass defense in the league. The Pittsburgh defense will will not allow Washington to put enough points on the board to keep this one close.
