North Carolina will look to preserve its win streak tonight when its squares off against in-state and conference rival Duke. Many pundits felt North Carolina would be a dark horse contender for ACC Coastal Division title before the season kick off, but the team provided little evidence that it was ready to contend for anything through three weeks of play.
The Tar Heels opened with a 1-2 record thanks to losses at Wake Forest and Louisville. However, since falling to the Cardinals, North Carolina has transformed into the team many felt it would be when the season began.
The Tar Heels are 4-0 in their last four games with big conference wins over Virginia Tech and Miami. Now the only thing separating UNC from the division lead is a Hurricanes loss to the Seminoles this evening and a win over second place Duke.
The Blue Devils, as their 5-2 record would indicate, have been, one of the bigger surprises in the ACC this season, but they did take a shot to the chin last weekend in Blacksburg. A watered down Virginia Tech team topped Duke 41-20, taking some of the shine of the Devils nearly unblemished start.
North Carolina has won the last eight in this series, but the Tar Heels are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games as a road favorite with a spread between 8 and 10.5 points.
