Tonight's battle between the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos pits two of the better teams in the AFC. Many have been looking forward to this matchup since Peyton Manning joined the Broncos. The Texans have marched to a 2-0 record overall and have covered the point spread in both of those games so far. Denver is 1-1 in both categories.
Houston more or less has the best defense in the AFC today and that could prove to be a pretty cool chess match today with a guy like Manning, who threw three interceptions last week against Atlanta. The Broncos almost came back in that game if they wouldn't have dug themselves such a hole early in the contest.
A win today would give Houston their first 3-0 start for the Texans. How will the Bronco run defense play today? Everyone on the planet knows what the Texans want to do — the the football a lot. One thing worth noting is that Houston is averaging 39 minutes of possession per game this season. That's nearly 66% of each game. If they are able to continue that today and keep Manning from getting the football, Houston could flex their proverbial muscles.
Matt Schaub is going to have to make good decisions for the Texans. If Denver is able stop Houston from pounding the football, the Texans might have to throw it more than expected. Will there be any advantage for Denver playing up their in the altitude? Possibly.
The Broncos are coming off a short week, playing last Monday. They'll probably be bruised up in the game and playing a very physical team like the Texans could be a major problem for Denver. However, I think playing at home with Manning will have to be a plus for Denver. If the Texans can't play keep-away, Manning is going to be very important.
