Sunday Night Football in the NFL will see the Detroit Lions head west to take on the San Fransisco 49ers. The game is scheduled for an 8:20 pm EST start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the odds for the game have the 49ers favored by 6.5 points.
This is a bigtime matchup of playoff teams from a season ago. Both clubs have started the season with 1-0 records and will be looking to move to 2-0. Many are talking about the contest last season that saw head coaches Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz exchange a heated handshake last season. San Fransisco won that game over Detroit 25-19. Last season in that game San Fran ran for more than 200 yards.
Could be a letdown spot for the 49ers here after the big win over Green Bay last week. Not saying it's going to happen, but it naturally seems to happen in spots like this. Detroit struggled with the St. Louis Rams last weekend and had to fight late in the game to come back and win at home. Maybe Detroit was looking ahead to this game? Certainly seems that way, looking back at it.
Turnovers are going to be huge in this game. San Fran turned it over twice in the last game these two clubs played but they still hung on to win the game. Detroit coughed it u several times last week against St. Louis as Matt Stafford threw a bevy of interceptions. San Fran was a really good home team last season, winning 7 of their 8 regular season games.
Detroit still hasn't really found a running game yet, something that's plagued them for a few seasons. Detroit rushed for one 83 yards last week, but did so on 18 carries. However, they are one of the best teams in the league at throwing the football. It will be a tough matchup between a big offense in Detroit against the league's arguably best defense in San Fran.
Free Pick: We like the Lions to cover the spread in what should be a pretty close game. That seems like a whole lot of points for Detroit considering they aren't a bad team anymore and can score points with the best teams in the league. The question is how will their defense play tonight? If they're doing well, Detroit could have a chance to win.
