The No. 16 Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to take on the UCLA Bruins on Saturday night in college football action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm EST start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. The odds for the game have Nebraska favored by 5 points.
This is a big game on the West Coast tonight in primetime on national television. The Cornhuskers want to continue on their 1-0 season and scoring points. The two schools haven't played since 1994, where Nebraska picked up a 49-21 win.
Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez grew up cheering for UCLA and wanted to play for the Bruins but was spurned by the school that didn't offer him a scholarship. He'll want to punish them today. His running back Rex Burkhead is listed as questionable at noon on Saturday, so his availability could change how this game is played. Martinez might not notice — he tossed for more than 350 yards last week and five touchdowns, both of which were personal records.
For bettors, UCLA is 14-4 against the number in home openers the past 18 years and as a home underdog they sport a 16-7 record for those past 23 games. There's at least something going for them heading into this game. The Bruins dominated Rice last week while Nebraska yawned its way through a game against a good Southern Miss team.
Brett Hundley had a huge game last week, missing on just seven of 28 attempts and tossing two touchdowns. He also added 68 yards rushing. Johnathan Franklin had an impressive game as well, rushing for over 200 and three scores. Both are going to have to have big games against that Nebraska defense today if the Bruins are going to hang around in the game.
Free Pick: We like the Huskers in this game. They are the overall better team and they travel well, so there's the potential that the stadium won't be completely full of UCLA fans. Taking road favorites is never a recipe for long term success, but we think they're the right move in this game today and they get it done.
