The Maryland Terrapins will take on the Temple Owls in college football action Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm EST start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNU. Currently the odds for the game have the Owls favored by 10 points.
Free Preview: Maryland, an ACC school, enters this game as a 10-point underdog to a Temple team that now plays in the Big East again. The Owls were in the MAC last year and an independent prior to that for a couple of seasons. Way back when (91-04) the Owls were in the Big East but were kicked out because no one came to their games, they weren't any good, didn't pose any competitive fire and didn't really care that they had a program. Things seem to be a bit different nowadays as Temple has done a pretty good job of getting relevant again. Now, we know that the Big East isn't a powerhouse football conference, and there's really no way that Maryland should be getting 10 points here today. Temple beat up on Villanova, an FCS school, 41-10 last week. And even though the score ended up being a rout, they still were out-gained in total yards. Ready into that for whatever you think it's worth. Matt Brown had 145 yards on the ground for the Owls and scored once on his 19 carries. He's a scooter and will lead the way with Chris Coyer getting carries as well. Temple didn't have to toss the football much and Coyer isn't a great QB, but he can benefit from Brown having a good game.
Maryland fell behind early and actually trailed at home against William and Mary last week. They eventually scored a second half touchdown and won 7-6. Horrible effort by the Terps and quarterback Perry Hills, who tossed three interceptions. The Terps were almost out-gained like Temple was, but clearly didn't look as well. Maryland seems and looks like a terrible play in this game against a high-scoring team like Temple, but let's not over-think this. Maryland struggled last week and is going to have to play better in this one against the Owls. Temple had a pretty good record last year at home and BLASTED Maryland 38-7 in this matchup a season ago. We're pretty sure the market is reflecting last year's win more than what happened in the opening week of the season.
Free Pick: Hard to believe, but we're taking the Terps and the points. Maryland's defense is better than last year and Temple is sort-of rebuilding this year and isn't the 2011 squad. Plus we have a revenge factor here with Maryland and we're expecting a lower-scoring game, so in that case we will gladly take the 10.
