It's a battle of two quality young teams on Thursday night in NFL Preseason action when the Buffalo Bills take on the Detroit Lions. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm EST start time and it will be televised locally in both markets. Currently the odds have the Lions favored by 4 points.
The Lions made the playoffs last season while the Buffalo Bills struggled down the stretch. Buffalo lost eight of their last nine games and dropped seven in a row at one point. Detroit qualified for the playoffs and got the New Orleans Saints in the first round. Even though they scored 28 points, they still were beaten up pretty badly. Now the team looks to focus on getting past that first round. There have been some off the field issues for the Lions this year and have some injuries to key guys, but seem to be past their actions. I suppose we'll see.
In tonight's matchup, the time spent on the field by Detroit QB Matt Stafford will probably get a lot of attention. He mashed up his non-throwing hand in the team's last game but did have X-rays that came back negative. However, their probably will still be some discomfort for the young QB, so it will be critical so see how he reacts and plays with that hand.
The Buffalo Bills are 0-3 and have been blown out by the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both are decent offensive teams but nowhere close to the Lions as far as numbers and stats are concerned. We would be very surprised in this contest if the Lions didn't cover the 4 points easily. The Bills were looking like a very good team in the beginning part of last season but simply fell apart once the season got going. Will they be able to rebound this season remains to be seen. They've made some interesting moves in the offseason and seem to be a sexy pick to win some games this season.
Free Pick: Lions 33, Bills 17 This game probably shouldn't be close as the Bills have given up an average of 27 points so far this preseason, which includes just giving up 7 points to the Redskins in the opening game. I don't think this game will be close as the Lions score early and often, pulling away for the win.
