Free Analysis: Atlanta had been slumping before Saturday’s 7-3 victory, losing six of its previous seven games due to a paltry 2.4 runs per contest and .197 batting average during this stretch. On Sunday, the Braves will send veteran right-hander Tim Hudson to the mound in hopes of salvaging the series split. He has not lost since July 1, going 6-0 with a 3.44 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in nine starts, leading Atlanta to an 8-1 record. Hudson also has an eight-start unbeaten streak against the Giants, going 5-0 with a 2.61 ERA during this run. Hudson (12-4, 3.69 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) has led his team to a 7-2 road record, thanks to his 3.36 ERA and 1.15 WHIP away from home. But Hudson has struggled in his two August road starts, allowing 10 runs and 13 hits in just 10.1 innings of work. Although Hudson averages 6.4 innings per start (6.6 in road starts), he has complete faith in his bullpen sealing the deal. Atlanta relievers carry a 2.98 ERA, which is the fourth-best mark in the majors. This number is even more impressive on the road (2.45 ERA) where the Braves have converted 20-of-23 save chances (87%). That’s a big reason why they are a stellar 36-26 (.581) away from home in 2012. The Giants will counter with two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, who is starting to regain his form with a 3.10 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in his past eight starts. He also has strong career numbers against the Braves, going 6-4 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 74 K’s in 66 innings against them. Lincecum (7-13, 5.30 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) has had a horrible season, but his numbers are much better in his pitcher-friendly home park (3.92 ERA, 1.34 WHIP). However, the Giants are 4-9 at home, and 9-17 overall with Lincecum on the mound this year. Control has been an issue with him all season (66 BB’s in 146 IP), but Lincecum still possesses dominant stuff, striking out 151 batters in 146 innings. He’s also keeping balls in the park, allowing just one home run in his past five outings.

Atlanta has the luxury of having Tim Hudson on the mound tonight as they are 16-2 with him on the mound vs teams not named Washington (0-3 vs the Nats). The Giants, on the other hand, are jjust 9-17 with Lincecum on the mound, including a 4-9 mark here. The Braves should have the offensive edge in this one as well as they average 5.7 rpg for Hudson on the road, while the Giants give Lincecum just 2.5 rpg of support at home. Look for the Braves to find away to get it done tonight on national TV, vs a Giants team that will start feeling the pressure from the Dodgers after that blockbuster trade.
