Major League Baseball action on Saturday night will see the New York Mets take on the Washington Nationals. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. EST start time and it will be televised on MLB Network. Currently the odds have the Nationals as comfortable favorites to win the game.
The opening game of this series on Friday night saw Washington pick up a 6-4 win. The Nationals, surprisingly, have the most wins of any team in the National League. Yes, the Washington Nationals. First place. Very cool, indeed. They're surging as well, picking up 21 wins in 27 games. Sure, there's talk about shutting down their best pitcher in Stephen Strasburg, but I think the team is just relishing in how great they are right now. Well, great might be the wrong word to use, but they are really good. Bryce Harper hit a 2-run bomb last night, which was his first home run in 11 games. Michael Morse has been clubbing the ball and even Jayson Werth hit leadoff. It seems as if Davey Johnson is pushing all the right buttons and his team is just responding well. The New York Mets are the New York Mets. Struggling again this season, New York will turn to one of their better pitchers in Jonathon Niese (9-6, 3.67 ERA). He's surrendered one run in two of his last three starts. Niese is 2-0 with a 1.37 ERA in his last four starts against the Nationals, but the Nats have beaten the Mets 10 of the last 12 games. Edwin Jackson (7-7, 3.74) will throw for Washington. He's 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA against the Mets.
Free Pick: Nationals are a bit pricey tonight in that -145 range, but we do think they get the job done here tonight. The Mets just don't seem to know how to manage a team or get players that are any good. While they can't lose every game every year, they are out of the discussion again at this point in the season. We like the Nats to win the game.
