The Toronto Blue Jays host the Oakland Athletics in second of a three-game series between the clubs on Wednesday night in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:07 p.m. EST start time and it will be televised nationally on MLB.tv in addition to being locally broadcast. Currently the odds for the game have the Blue Jays favored at -129 with the total set at 9 runs.
Free Analysis: The Oakland Athletics have been one of the best stories in Major League Baseball this season, currently sitting in a tie for second place with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. The Texas Rangers lead that division by just five games over both the Athletics and Angels, who both are atop the Wild Card standings, where two clubs from each league will make it this season. The Oakland Athletics don't have a great lineup but seem to have been getting major pitching strides this year, which have allowed them to reach 52 wins already. Oakland rookie starter A.J. Griffin has been pretty good this season, picking up two wins and having a good ERA. Even more impressive for Oakland might be what they are trying to accomplish tonight. The Athletics haven't won seven straight games in three years (Sept. 14-20, 2009), but are gunning for just that tonight. Oakland won the first game of this series with a 7-2 clobbering of the Jays on Tuesday night. Jays ace Ricky Romero (8-6, 5.22) takes the hill tonight for the club, having lost a career-worst five straight decisions overall for a team that has a lot of offense, but cant seem to get the pitching figured out. The Blue Jays rank third overall in runs scored this year with 478, behind just the Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. They swept the Red Sox during the weekend and managed to score 28 runs in the three games. Romero might be the saving grace, at least for tonight. He has a career record of 4-0 with a 1.70 ERA against the Athletics, his lowest ERA against any team he has faced more than twice.
Free Pick: Despite the Athletics coming this close to winning a seventh straight game for the first time in three years, we really like the Blue Jays tonight, especially at home. The -129 line isn't a terrible one for a pitcher that has done well against Oakland and Toronto is at home as well. The Blue Jays have a 25-21 record overall at home and could be in a great position tonight with the Athletics. Griffin has done a great job, beating both Minnesota and the New York Yankees so far this year. The Athletics also have wins against Boston and San Fransisco in Griffin's starts this season. However, we'll take the home team with a decent line and their ace on the mound tonight.-$25 of picks FREE! No Obligation - No Credit Card Required - Becoming a member is Fast and Free!
