Free Analysis: Detroit has been a disappointment for most of the season as most experts believed the team was poised for another run at the American League Central title. The Tigers defeated Baltimore in the series opener to extend their winning streak to six games with victories in eight of ten overall. The solid pitching and hitting that had been a part of their success in this span was nowhere to be found in Saturday's an 8-6 13 inning loss to the Orioles. The offense was largely silent before erupting for four ninth inning runs before taking one run leads in 11th and 13th before a painfully poor effort by the relief corps squandered both. A 14 hit attack went by the wayside as starter Max Scherzer gave up four runs in five innings before Jose Velarde gave up a run in the 11th before Joaquim Benoit gave up a pair of homers and three runs in the 13th to blow another lead. Miguel Cabrera had three more hits Saturday, and he’s is batting .362 (85-for-235) with 12 home runs and 50 RBI over his last 58 games, while CF Austin Jackson went 0-for-6 on Saturday, ending his hitting streak at 16 games. Justin Verlander gets the ball for the Tigers and he is looking to erase the memories of a horrible performance in the All-Star game, that saw him allow 5 ER's in the first inninBaltimore has been stubbornly clinging to second in the American League East as the Birds entertain hopes of overtaking the division leading Yankees. The Oriole position in the East is tedious at best as the team has been in the midst of a slow decline while New York continues to put games in the win column. The Oriole had dropped three in a row and seven of ten before Saturday's 8-6 victory. g. Justin (9-5, 2.58 ERA) loves to face the O's, as he is 6-0 with a 3.05 ERA in 9 starts vs them, including a 4-0 mark with a 2.50 ERA in 5 starts at Camden Yards. Baltimore has been stubbornly clinging to second in the American League East as the Birds entertain hopes of overtaking the division leading Yankees. The Oriole had dropped three in a row and seven of ten before Saturday's 8-6 victory. Nick Markakis had a big night on Saturday, going 3-6 with 3 doubles and 2 runs scored, but he is just 7-for-30 (.233) with 10 strikeouts against Verlander, while JJ Hardy has been in a horrible slump, going 1 for his last 29. That one was a sol homer in the 13thy inn ing last night. After three relief appearances, Miguel Gonzalez made his major league debut as a starter with impressive results in a 3-2 win over the Angels. Gonzalez held a hot hitting LAA lineup to just three hits while striking out six in seven frames. The 28-year-old Gonzalez will likely remain in the rotation with another solid outing, especially since the Orioles are desperate for reliable starters. He has an 18-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in four appearances covering 18 2/3 innings.

Free Pick: Were gonna go with a RL play on Detroit in this one. Justin Verlander was on the grand stage on in the All-Star game and he really had an embarrassing outing, in which he allowed 5 runs in just 1 inning. Justin has to be a bit ticked off after that performance and what better way to redeem himself than vs a team he has owned. In his career Justin has 9 starts vs the O's and is 6-0 with a 3.05 ERA vs them, while in 5 starts here he is 4-0 with a 2.50 ERA. In his 5 starts here Detroit has won all 5 and all 5 wins have been by 2 runs or more. Not only is Verlander upset, but the tigers are as a team after blowing a game in the ninth last night and then losing in Extras. It was a rough loss for them. Detroit's offense has really been on fire of late and they should put up plenty of runs vs Miguel Gonzalez, while Verlander will once again shut down this struggling O's offense. Detroit by 3 or more here.
