NASCAR continues on Saturday night with the running of the Coke Zero 400 presented by Coca Cola. The event will take place at Daytona International Speedway as the Coke Zero 400 will have a start time of 6:30 p.m. EST. The race will be televised nationally on TNT. Currently sitting on the pole for the race is Matt Kenseth. The odds for the race currently have Kenseth and Tony Stewart as the co-favorites to win at 9/1.
The Coke Zero 400 has been run at Daytona International Speedway every year since 1959. Although the name of the race has changed some times, the race is still 160 laps and 400 miles. It is annually the second major race at Daytona every year after the Daytona 500 to open the NASCAR season. Since 1988, the race has been held on the first Saturday of July. Also in 1998, it became the first restrictor plate and Daytona race to be held at night. In recent years the race was known as the Pepsi 400, the Pepsi Firecracker 400, the Medal of Honor Firecracker 400, the Firecracker 400 and even the Firecracker 250. The "Firecracker" name in the status comes from the race being held annually around the Fourth of July.
There hasn't been a repeat champion at this race since Tony Stewart did it in 2005-06. Since then, winners of the race include Jamie McMurray, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, David Ragan and even Tony Stewart again. The race in 2010, which was won by Harvick, started late because of rain and ended just before 1 a.m. on July 4. That race featured a green-white-checker finish and was the last race to be run on the old asphalt at Daytona.
