Los Angeles Angels Vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 6/23/12: Mark's Free MLB Baseball Pick

Saturday in MLB and we will see the Freeway Series continue as the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim. Thgame is scheduled for a 7:15 pm (ET) start time and it will be televised live on  FOX. Currently the odds have the Angels favored at -145while the Dodgers are dogs of +136. The total for the game is at 7.5 runs.

Free Analysis: The National League Leading Dodgers have hit a bit of a dry patch but are still staying ahead of the pack in the division for now. Having said that, an 8-5 defeat at the hands of the Angels saddled the team with four consecutive losses and defeats in five of their last 6 games.  They haven't endured a longer slide as the visitor since a six-game road skid Aug. 28-Sept. 9, 2010. They're hitting just .160 with seven runs on this trip despite collecting 12 hits in the opener of this series. Andre Ethier had three hits Friday and owns a .404 average in his past 13 games against the Angels. He's 5 for 15 with a homer off Santana. Chris Capuano gets the ball for the Dodgers today and would appreciate some help from Ethier and the rest of the lineup. The left-hander has been backed by two total runs over his last two starts, and both of those came in a 3-2 loss to the Angels on June 11. He allowed two runs and eight hits with four walks in five-plus innings while not getting a decision. Capuano followed that up Sunday with one of his best performances of the year, yielding one run and six hits while striking out a season-high 12 in eight innings of a 2-1, 10-inning win over the Chicago White Sox. The Lefty is 8-2 with a 2.761 ERA overall, but 3-2 with a 4.02 ERA in his road starts and he has never faced the Angels. The Angels are on a tear as they have gone 21-7 in their last 28 games. The Angels' 21-7 stretch has also been spurred by a 3.09 ERA from the staff, even though Santana (4-7, 5.16 ERA) has largely struggled. The right-hander had posted a 10.18 ERA in his previous four starts before last Saturday, when he carried a perfect game into the seventh inning and finished with a one-hitter in a 2-0 win over Arizona. He walked just one after issuing 15 free passes over his previous 20 1-3 innings. Santana is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA in five home starts against the Dodgers (42-29), and the Angels have won 12 of the last 16 meetings. Also on a tear is Mike Trout. The 20-year-old Trout is second in the AL with a .338 average. The outfielder is 7 for 12 with six runs scored during the Angels' three-game winning streak, which continued Friday as he connected for a solo homer to put the Angels (39-32) ahead for good in an 8-5 win to open this three-game Freeway Series. The Angels are  53-37 in the all-time series.

Free Pick: I like the Over in this one. Ervin Santana had a good game in his last outing, but is has still been struggling with a 10.18 ERA in his previous 4 starts. He allowed 4 ER's or more in each of those starts and he has a 4.60 ERA at home and a 4.97 ERA in his day starts. His home starts have averaged just 7.2 rpg, but he had been getting poor run support at home (2.9 rpg). That shouldn't happen here as the Angels offense has been hot, averaging 6.2 rpg in their last 5 games and they do average 4.2 rpg at home. The Dodgers offense has been struggling of late, but they did get 12 hits and 5 runs in last nights game and they do score 4.2 rpg on the road. Chris Capuano has pitched nicely for the Dodgers, but he has a 4.02 ERA on the road, compared to a 1.57 ERA at home. His road starts have averaged 8.9 rpg. Both offrenses should have good success vs these pitchers, as this one hits at least 9 runs.
