He gave up three runs - two earned - in six innings of a 5-4 victory June 10. Hitting with RISP has been a problem for the Yanks this year. After going 2 for 11 in those situations Tuesday, they put runners on second or third four times Wednesday and got one hit. The Yankees are batting .218 with RISP, among the lowest in the major leagues. "We're a club that's going to score most of our runs by hitting home runs," manager Joe Girardi said. "But I believe eventually it's going to turn around." The streaky Mets have climbed back in to second in the National League East thanks to a three game sweep of Baltimore which was capped off by a 4-3 victory Wednesday night. Win or lose, the NYM pitching has been solid aside from some bull pen problems while the offense has generally given consistent support. Jonathon Niese (4-3, 3.82) opposed Pettitte on June 10 and allowed two unearned runs in seven innings. He'll look to bounce back Friday after giving up four runs and a three-run homer in seven innings of a 4-1 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday. The defeat was Niese's first in six home starts this season. Since that so-so effort by the left-hander, the Mets have embarked on a run of strong pitching outings at Citi Field, posting a 1.25 ERA in going 3-1 in their last four there. Mets starting pitchers have a 2.98 ERA at home and have lasted at least six innings in 12 straight games there. The Yankees (41-27) have won seven of eight against the Mets (38-32). and are 11-4 in interleague play this year. The Mets are 22-15 at home, but the Yanks are 21-13 on the road.

Andy Pettitte has pitched very well for the Yanks in his return and he has allowed 2 ER's or less in 5 of his last 6 starts, posting an ERA of 2.33 over that stretch. he is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 2 road starts this year, but has pitched very well at night with a 3-1 mark, a 2.15 ERA and an 0.89 WHIP in 4 night starts. Andy is also 7-3 with a 3.03 ERA in his last 15 interleague starts. After a long winning streak the Yanks have lost thier last 2, but they should get it back tonight vs a Mets team that has really overachieved this year.
