The NBA Finals begin on Tuesday night in Game 1 between the visiting Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA Finals odds for the game have the home town Thunder favored by 5 points. The game is scheduled for an 9:00 pm start time and it will be televised live on ABC. The spread shows that bookmakers have a prediction of a close win at home for the Thunder, taking an early lead in the series.
Picks: The NBA and the fans of basketball have wanted to see this Finals matchup all season. We have arguably the two best and most athletic teams in the league going at it in what could be a memorable Finals. The league's two biggest stars in Kevin Durant and LeBron James will battle to see which earns his first championship ring. We all know this is more than an individual matchup between the two best players in the league, but it certainly will be nice to watch. "I think it's going to be a great matchup," Miami's Dwyane Wade said Monday. "I think it's going to be two players that's going to be tough to guard each other, that's going to have to guard each other." It's the first time the MVP and scoring champ have met in the finals since 1997, when Michael Jordan's Bulls knocked off MVP Karl Malone and Utah. Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook is going to play a major role in the series as well, with the Heat not having a defensive presence at the one guard to be able to stop Westbrook. James will be getting his third shot at winning an NBA title and this is probably his best overall shot. Last year Wade, LeBron and the Heat fell short to the Dallas Mavericks in the Finals where the eventual champions beat up on the Heat inside, outside and at the free throw line. This year the Heat seem to be more prepared for what is going to happen. James Harden and Serge Ibaka are monsters at home and both will be important to tonight's contest. Rebounding for the Thunder will be a huge advantage, presumably. They're also at home, where the team has only lost seven times all season and haven't lost there in the playoffs. It's going to be a great Finals.
Prediction: Too many points, don't care where the game is being played. These games are going to be very close and scooping up five points is a present. These games will be high scoring, fast-paced and full of star power. Expect the games to be a back and forth perimeter oriented style. I think the Heat can steal one here tonight and take away the home court from the Thunder. Heat 101, Thunder 96
