Free Analysis: After a miserable start to the season the Angels have appeared to have finally righted the ship. The LAA upended Colorado 10-8 Sunday for a three game sweep of the Rockies and seventh victory in eleven contests. The key to the turnaround from a slow start has come from the offense who is finally starting to plate some runs. The Angels have scored 6 runs or more in each of their last 6 games, while in the Rockies series they put up 28 runs. Mike Trout, Torii Hunter and Albert Pujols hit a combined .548 (23 for 42) with 16 RBIs in the Rockies series, while on Sunday Mark Trumbo had his second multi-Homer game in a week. Mark has been the Angels top offensive threat this year so far as he leads the team in HR's (14) and BA (.326), including batting .357 with eight homers and 20 RBIs in the last 14 games.Albert Pujols has done well vs Capuano as he has five straight two-hit games and is batting .545 (18 for 33) with five homers off the southpaw. Taking the Hill for the Angels is Garrett Richards. he will be making just his second start of 2012 and the Halos are hoping he duplicates his first time out when he defeated Seattle 6-1 with one run allowed on four hits and eight K's over seven innings. The Dodgers have slowed just enough to breathe life in to San Francisco but seem to have turned things around rather quickly. Los Angeles downed Seattle by an 8-2 count Sunday to give them seven wins in eleven games as both the work on the mound and at the plate has been generally strong in this stretch. That trend continued in the series finale versus the Mariners with Chad Billingsley giving up just a single run on two hits and a trio of bases on balls over seven innings pitched. The LAD had plenty of base runners with eleven hits and five free passes with Andre Ethier connecting on a grand slam and five players knocking in runs and eight scoring overall. Andre Ethier was 2 for 30 on the final eight games of the trip, but the right fielder batted .386 (27 for 70) at home in May. Ethier hit .417 (10 for 24) with five doubles off Angels pitching last season. Chris Capuano (8-2, 2.82 ERA) gets the ball for the Dodgers and he has a chance to tie the NL wins lead Monday, and prevent the Dodgers from their first five-game home skid since July 30-Aug. 10 of last year. The Angels have won 9 straight on the road and are 9-3 the last 12 in the series, including 5-1 in their last 6 here.
Free Pick: I know that some good pitching is on the mound for this one, but this pick is more about a couple of hot hitting teams. The Angels just had a big series in Colorado in which they scored 28 runs in the 3 games. Most teams can have a big series in Colorado, but the Angels also scored 6 runs in each of their 3 games at home vs Seattle before the Colorado Series. This is a team that is swinging hot bats right now. Chris Capuano has allowed 4 ER's in each of last 2 starts and I know they were both on the road, but one of those starts was at Philly, where the Phils just haven't been scoring runs. Chris does have a 1.36 ERA at home, but the Halos do score 4.65 rp/9 off of lefties on the road.Garrett Richards has just 4 career starts and in his lone start this year he allowed just 1 ER in 7 innings, but that start was vs a weak hitting Seattle squad. He has just 1 road start in his career and that was last year and he allowed 6 ER's in just 5 innings vs the Yanks. The Dodgers come in hitting well as they have scored 6 or more runs in 3 4 of their last 5 games, plus they also hit .281 and score 4.3 rpg at home on the year. The Dodgers will get their runs off of Richards, while Capuano may be due for a bad home start. Both offenses are swinging good bats right now and that should lead to at least 9 runs in this one.
