The 2012 NFL Draft begins its Second Day on Friday night LIVE. It will be televised nationally on ESPN with complete Second Round and Third Round coverage with a 7:00 p.m. start time. Listed below is the complete draft schedule and draft order.
This year's draft is the 77th annual meeting of National Football League franchises. The event is being held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The Draft began on Thursday night with the complete First Round. Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was no shocker as the No. 1 overall pick to the Indianapolis Colts while the No. 2 pick in the draft was Robert Griffin III, the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from Baylor to the Washington Redskins.
Teams are slotted based on how they finish in the prior season but once the second round comes around, there is plenty of shakeups as teams moved up in the First Round and traded away picks from later in the draft. The Baltimore Ravens are just one example of this from Thursday night. They were scheduled to pick at No. 29 but swapped that pick for the No. No. 35 and No. 98 which will both be selections on Friday.
Trades were just some of the talk that came from Thursday's action as several teams moved up and down the draft boards to pick the player they wanted. The Cleveland Browns were scheduled to pick at No. 4, but they traded up one spot to No. 3 with Minnesota to nab Alabama running back Trent Richardson, who many draft gurus had ranked as the top overall player in the draft that wasn't a quarterback.
A total of three running backs were taken on the first night of the draft as Richardson, Boise State's Doug Martin at No. 31 to Tampa Bay and Virginia Tech's David Wilson at No. 32 to the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The first five players in the draft were offensive players. New England picked up two defensive players in Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower. Dallas somehow moved up in the draft and picked up LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, who they were widely known to have coveted. Today teams will look to not only find value in the players left but also look to fill out their rosters. Many teams have several selections.
