NBA action on Monday night could see a division title crowned as the Portland Trail Blazers travel to take on the San Antonio Spurs. The game is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest. Currently the odds for this game have the Spurs favored by 13 points with the total sitting at 207.5 points.
Free Analysis: The San Antonio Spurs can wrap up the top overall spot in the Western Conference tonight with a win over the struggling Portland Trail Blazers, who have dropped five straight contests. It might not matter to the Spurs, but they are just a half game behind the Chicago Bulls for the best overall record in the NBA. San Antonio has been resting their starters recently and Tim Duncan sat out Sunday's win over the Cleveland Cavs. Manu Ginobili had a team-high 20 points off the bench in that game. Greg Popovich played 10 different players with at least 18 minutes in Sunday's win. Quite a few players are expected to see the court tonight and it's expected the Spurs will go for the gusto and win. San Antonio has won seven straight games and are 1.5 games ahead of the Thunder atop the West. San Antonio also holds the tiebreaker against Oklahoma City thanks to a 2-1 record against the Thunder. There will probably be at least some revenge on the Spurs' minds tonight as the Blazers pounded them 137-97 back in February. Several of those players won't see the court tonight, however. LaMarcus Aldridge is out for the rest of the year with hip surgery and Nicolas Batum didn't play on Saturday. Joel Przybilla and Raymond Felton were also out again and aren't expected to play tonight as Portland's season comes to a disappointing end yet again. If the Spurs are going to try and play for that top overall spot in the Western Conference, they'll play their starters and drill Portland tonight.
Free Pick: I'll take the Spurs tonight even laying the 13 points at home. Sure, that is a lot of points, but the Spurs are going to dominate tonight with Portland essentially playing their second stringers. Popovich can talk all he wants about not caring about his team's record or seeding, but he's full of it. He wants the top spot in the conference and he will play his starters tonight. San Antonio is the better team and will keep Portland from ever really getting involved in this game tonight from a competitive level. We're expecting a blowout of epic proportions.
