Sunday Night NFL New England Patriots at New York Jets Start Time, Free Pick

Sunday Night football in prime time will see the New England Patriots travel to take on the New York Jets. The game is scheduled for an 8:20 pm kickoff and will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the odds are favoring the Jets in this contest. New York is favored by 3 points with the total being set at 47.5 for the game. Both team enter the game at 5-3 on the season and this tilt is huge for the AFC East standings as the squads are tied for first place.

Free Analysis: The Jets have been dominant at home this season, winning all four of their games by an average of 14 points. New England has struggled on the road this season, going just 2-2 away from Gillette Stadium this season. Tom Brady and the Patriots have struggled recently as well, losing two straight games to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants. This is their third straight tough game before a presumable layup next week against the Kansas City Chiefs. New England had the top rated passing offense in the league, throwing for over 325 yards per game. They also have one of the better rush defenses in the league, giving up just over 100 yards per game. Both have proven to be good for the team this year, but they have struggled in big games. Odd to see, especially with the best quarterback in the league in Tom Brady. The New York Jets, on the other hand, are not impressive on offense. They really don't do anything particularly well, but they also don't beat themselves. That's proven to at least work for them to this point in the season. QB Mark Sanchez might be able to have a field day against the Patriots pass defense, which is DEAD LAST in the league, giving up more than 300 yards per game. That's just terrible. New York has been better offensively in their last three games, scoring an average of 26 points per game in their mini winning streak.

Free Pick: Both teams have an advantage over the other in certain areas. I expect the Jets to be able to throw the football against the Pats, but I also expect the Pats to be able to move the football against the Jets. It's going to be cold and not very pleasant weather, but I still think a lot of points will be scored. I like the Patriots if you can get the number at +3.5, but at +3 I'm just not sure I can play them in a big game like this. They haven't proven, at least to this point in the season, that they can win big games, especially on the road. But I don't trust the Jets either. I think the over at 47.5 is a decent bet. We're assuming each one of these teams will get to 24 points, which I can buy.
