College football on Wednesday night will see the Temple Owls travel to play the Ohio Bobcats. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 kickoff and will be televised nationally on ESPN. The Owls, even on the road, are favored by 3.5 points with the total set at 46.5. Much like last night's game between Northern Illinois and Toledo, this game has major implications on the conference. Temple enters this game tonight with a 3-2 record in the conference while Ohio currently sits at 2-2. Both teams have a 5-3 record on the season.
Free Analysis: Temple comes into this contest with a fairly underrated football team. The Owls rank ninth nationally in rushing yards at over 250 per game while their defense is giving up 10 points per game. That's two things that make a football team pretty good. The Owls have an impressive 3-1 record on the road this season but did lose in their last outing to Bowling Green 13-10. Temple struggled mightily in that contest with just 66 yards passing and only a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Just an outright struggle for them. Now they turn around and play a tough Ohio team that has lost three of its last five games. The Bobcats have given up an average of 27 points per game in their last three games, two of which were losses. In their previous four games, where they went 3-1, they gave up the same amount of total points, but in one less game. Struggling a bit defensively and with Temple coming in tonight, it's not a good situation. I see neither team has played since last Saturday, which will probably be good at least for conditioning tonight. Offensively the Bobcats are a pretty fair and balanced team. They run the football well and quarterback Tyler Tettleton is the real deal with 17 touchdowns to just five picks this season, throwing for nearly 2,000 yards already. I like Ohio at home in this odd Wednesday game. Obviously it's a nationally televised game so that in itself brings some exposure. I think both teams will be able to score points in this contest as that seems to always happen in these types of atmosphere's. Last night's game between Northern Illinois and Toledo is just another example of that.
Free Pick: The over at 46.5 is interesting. Obviously both teams can score points as they are averaging 60 per game combined. However, Temple has been dynamite defensively, ranking second in the country allowing just 10 points per game. I'd be hard pressed to believe that Ohio is only going to score 10 points tonight, so I think the OVER might be a pretty solid bet. I also like Ohio tonight. Playing at home and getting more than a field goal (they are 3.5 point dogs) is always a good thing in conference action, I think. In looking at Ohio and the OVER, I think there is a recipe for success tonight.
