College Football Wednesday UCONN at Pittsburgh Start Time, Free Pick

http://balleroo.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/raygraham_lfweb.jpg

A Wednesday night clash between Big East rivals highlights the sports world. The Pittsburgh Panthers will host the Connecticut Huskies Wednesday night. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN. Both teams enter tonight at 3-4 on the season with identical 1-1 Big East football records. Pittsburgh is currently favored by 10 points in this rivalry game with the total being set at 41 (over -120). This will be the third road game for Connecticut this season. The Huskies have lost road games to Vanderbilt and West Virginia this year. Pittsburgh has three wins at home this season but two of those wins are over Buffalo and Maine. Sure, the win over South Florida was good at the time, but it's looking more and more average as the Bulls continue to lose.

Free Analysis: Pittsburgh is going to hand the football off nearly every down to Ray Graham. Makes sense, as he's almost over the 1,000-yard plateau this season. Plus, the quarterback play hasn't exactly been good for Pittsburgh this season. Tino Sunseri has been awful this season with seven interceptions to just five touchdowns. Not an expert by any means, but that doesn't seem like it would equate to wins. Might be a big reason the Panthers are under .500 for the season. Pittsburgh is also coming off back-to-back losses to Rutgers and Utah. Offensively, we know they like to run the football. I'd expect nothing less in Wednesday's contest. The Panthers are averaging just under 160 yards rushing per game, which is pretty good in a physical conference like the Big East. If Sunseri is forced to throw the football the Panthers could be in big trouble. Connecticut is coming off a 16-10 victory over South Florida at home. The winner of this game will take another step in climbing the ladder in the depleted Big East. Husky QB Johnny McEntee hasn't been impressive yet this season either, so it's tough for me to say who will win this game.

Free Pick: I know both teams struggle offensively. Neither team ranks in the Top 50 nationally in either running or passing this season. Not good. I think 10 points for UCONN is just too much in a game like this, which probably will be very close. The total has me peaked as it's only sitting at 41. IMO with two pretty decent defenses and bad offenses, the UNDER in tonight's game might be a good idea. I don't feel comfortable at all laying 10 points with a bad Pittsburgh team, but I don't really feel that confident Connecticut can cover 10 points with as bad as they have been offensively either. If I have to take a pick in this game I'll take the UNDER with Pittsburgh winning 17-9.
