Tuesday College Football: Troy at Florida International Start Time, Free Pick

The Troy Trojans (2-4, 1-2 Sun Belt) travel to the Sunshine State tonight to take on Florida International (4-3, 1-2 Sun Belt) in a Tuesday night college football showdown. The game has a kickoff time of 8:00 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The Golden Panthers are currently anywhere from -6.5 to -7.5 point favorites in this game with the total set at 55. Troy began the season with back-to-back tough losses to Clemson and Arkansas, two Top Ten teams, before going 2-2 in their most recent four games. After wins against Middle Tennessee State and UAB, the Trojans dropped two bad losses to Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe. Florida International also lost to Louisiana-Lafayette back in the fourth week of the season.

Free Analysis: Anytime we have a college football game on a Tuesday night, it's going to draw a lot of attention, even if it's two teams with a combined 6-7 record and a Sun Belt Conference game. I like that teams are willing to play in these types of situations because it obviously gives us something to bet on and it seems to help make the week go faster with football on. I think both athletically and talent-wise Florida International is a better football team. However, as we've seen countless times this season alone, that doesn't always equate to victories. A decent offense that averages just over 26 points per game, Florida International doesn't do anything particularly well, but does have a decent offense nontheless. Defensively, they've done a nice job this season, at least in the beginning. In their last four games, three of which were losses, the Golden Panthers surrendered an average of 29.5 points per game. That's probably not going to cut it, even in the Sun Belt. On the flip side, Troy has struggled all around this season, losing all three road games by an average of 16 points. Not good. However, they are only a touchdown underdog in tonight's game. Troy quarterback Corey Robinson has turned the ball over far too many times to this point in the season (7 INTs) but he has shown the ability to also be accurate (61% completions). Still trying to figure that out. They do throw the ball alot, whipping it around nearly 300 yards per game. The Golden Panthers give up a little over 230 yards per game through the air, but have given up quite a few yards in their losses.

Free Pick: I like Troy and the points, whether it's +6.5 or +7.5 — to be honest, I'd rather have it at more than a touchdown, especially if you can still get it. It's a conference game, on a Tuesday night, and typically these types of games tend to be close, so if I can get the road team plus a possession I think it's a good idea. Florida International hasn't done anything this season to impress me, but neither has Troy. I think those two factors allow us to take the underdog in this situation.
