College Football Start Time, Odds and Picks for Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, LSU and Auburn

Tennessee at Alabama (-28 ½) 7:15Pm ESPN2: On these very pages last week we contended that Tennessee would be outrushed by a greater than 2-1 margin (a long term 75% ATS indicator) and get drilled at home by LSU.  Check, and check.  LSU rolled to a 260-111 overland edge in a 38-7 victory in which they covered by two TDs.  With Alabama battling LSU for the top spot on the polls, shrewd HC Saban will be looking to exceed that margin.  The Vols continue to battle numerous injuries.  Virgin QB Sims, who was 6-20, with 2 INTs vs LSU, will continue to have his confidence crushed.  Alabama has a near perfect statistical profile resulting in a 40-7 margin of victory.  All of Saban’s work has translated into records 31-14 ATS including 6-1 ATS this year and 15-6 ATS on this field.

USC at Notre Dame (-8 ½) 7:30 NBC: Seeing the Trojans at this level of underdog is a situation that will clearly have a large segment of the public knee jerking to USC.  A closer inspection finds this number to actually be an under-ration. These are clearly 2 programs heading in opposite directions.  Under Kiffin, Troy is 7-12 ATS.  At ND, HC Kelly has righted the ship with a recent 7-3 ATS mark.  They have won 4 consecutive games following a pair of season opening losses which were directly attributable to 10 costly TOs. Now playing at home with an extra week to prepare, and the momentum of 26 and 28 pt victories, look for the Irish to easily outlast a USC team that is allowing 24 PPG and is suffering from injuries to a pair of key offensive contributors in RB Tyler and WR Lee.

Auburn at LSU (-22 ½) 3:30PM CBS: There is no doubt LSU is good, maybe great.  Their defense allows just 12 PPG and the offense is being aided with the return of QB Jefferson, who provides a more explosive component .  But a closer look at the schedule shows they’ve gotten the best of it.  They faced each of their last 2 opponents, FL and TN, who were starting virgin QBs.  Now they get the same advantage against an Auburn team who is playing musical chairs at the signal caller position.  But regardless who starts at that position, the constant is OC Malzahn leading an offense that has just 3 RS.  He has the Tigers averaging 26 PPG.  After a terrible start defensively,  in which they allowed 110 pts the first three games, their defense has been far more representative.  As a result this remains an under-rated,  improving Auburn team who, as defending national champ, continues to play with a lot of pride.  Must note that LSU is just 2-13 ATS con HF and 2-11 ATS at home in day games.
