Numerous sources are reporting that the #1 ranked LSU Tigers have suspended starting running back Spencer Ware (128 attempts, 512 yards, six touchdowns), starting defensive back Therold Simon (twenty nine tackles and one interception) and star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu (42 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two touchdowns). Les Miles is expected to have a press conference at 6pm ET to address these issues and possibly announce further suspensions.
LSU opened up as a twenty-one point favorite and early action from the public and sharp bettors have moved the line up to -22.0 at many sportsbooks. Professional middles are hoping once the news becomes public the line will drop and they can "middle" the game if the spread drops below twenty-one again. Using historical data going back to 1999, the number 20 and 21 both have around seven cents of value to bettors.
The Tigers opened the season in Las Vegas at 15-1 to win the BCS National Championship, but are currently down to 3-1 at most sportsbooks. Michael Bonnette who is a spokesperson for LSU said Les Miles "will handle accordingly." Les Miles was 90-38 lifetime going into this season at LSU, including a 6-3 bowl record.
