The San Diego Chargers opened the 2011 NFL season in Las Vegas with Super Bowl odds of 25-1 ($100.00 wager would pay back $2500.00) and a projected season win total of ten games. Since wagering opened up, the Chargers have been bet all the way down to 12-1 odds to win the Super Bowl in Vegas and 9-1 offshore. Only the New England Patriots (3.5-1), Green Bay Packers (3.10-1) and Pittsburgh Steelers (8.25-1) are favored ahead of San Diego to win the Super Bowl. MGM Resorts
International Race & Sports opened their season win
total at 10.0 -110 and currently has San Diego at over 10.0 +100 / under 10.0
-120. The oddsmakers offshore lean toward the over and have the Chargers win total sitting at over 10.0 -120 / under 10.0 -110.
Cantor Gaming released their complete NFL regular season projections in June and have the following predictions on the San Diego Chargers: Minnesota+9.0 at San Diego, San Diego +6.0 at New England, Kansas City +6.0 at San Diego, Miami +6.5 at San Diego, San Diego -5.0 at Denver, San Diego +3.0 at N.Y. Jets, San Diego -2.5 at Kansas City, Green Bay (PK) at San Diego, Oakland +7.0 at San Diego, San Diego (PK) at Chicago, Denver +9.0 at San Diego, San Diego -3.0 at Jacksonville, Buffalo +9.5 at San Diego, Baltimore +1.5 at San Diego, San Diego -1.0 at Detroit and San Diego (-1.5) at Oakland. Cantor has the Chargers an underdog only twice (road games in New England and at the Jets) and a "pick" at home versus the Packers and on the road against the Chicago Bears.
With the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders making up the AFC West, it is difficult not to assume the Chargers should walk through their division in 2011. Despite ranking #1 in both offense and defense in the NFL last season, San Diego ended up 9-7 and actually missed the playoffs. Even though they were the pick early on to win the Super Bowl last year, the Chargers tied a league record with 74 different players making the roster due to injuries. If the Chargers stay healthy it is hard not to concede them the division and a possibly winning twelve or thirteen games this season.
