With Animal Kingdom the favorite at 2-1, he will be the most popular of all the Preakness picks this Saturday at the second leg of the Triple Crown. The 2011 Preakness Stakes is scheduled to take place on May 21, 2011 at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland. This will be the 136th running of the Preakness. Coverage begins on NBC at 4:30 ET, with post time set for 6:18 ET. The Preakness Stakes is the second leg of Horse Racing's Triple Crown. So if we put aside the Kentucky Derby winner for a moment, below are the remaining top Preakness contenders for 2011:
10- Dialed In (9-2): The Kentucky Derby favorite disappointed bettors with an 8th place finish despite an amazing effort at the midway mark of the race. This is our pick to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday and end Animal Kingdom's chances at winning the Triple Crown. Outside of all the quality reasons we like Dialed In, he is also eligible for a $5.5 million bonus by winning the 2011 Peakness Stakes due to winning the Grade 1 Florida Derby and Grade 3 Holy Bull.
9- Mucho Macho Man (6-1): This is our selection to come in the place or show slot to Dialed In. Mucho Macho Man has only been worse than fourth just one time in nine career races. He just came up short to Nehro at the Kentucky Derby, so expect him to be among the leaders as they come down the stretch.
5-
Shackleford (12-1): Beaten by just 3 1/2 lengths to end up 4th after leading almost the entire Kentucky Derby, this horse has a great shot to win on Saturday. One of the most important things to point out is once Shackleford was put on dirt he had a huge three-quarter length win at Churchill Downs last fall.
8- Dance City (12-1): This is our upset pick to win the 2011 Preakness Stakes. On paper he took 3rd at the Arkansas Derby, but if you watch the video you will see Dance City was a "bump away" from possibly winning the race. His speed alone and continued improvement should have him in the money, but do not be shocked if he can pull the upset on Saturday.
