When did you start betting?
I was exposed to betting at a very early age and it immediately appealed to me. I was already regularly making (and mostly winning) various types of wagers with school yard friends as a young child. At age 11, I won a contest in the Toronto Star for correctly predicting what the Blue Jays would make at the trade deadline. Competing against adults for reasonably large stakes, I won my first (against the spread) NFL football pool by the time I was 13. I continued to dominate the same pool through my teenage years. By the time I was 19, I was already a regular at the first offshore sportsbooks.
Career highlights?
I was independently documented at one of the nation's most respect sports monitors for 8+ years. During that time, I finished #1 in every single sport - not just once, but numerous times. Competing against 150 handicappers, I still rank as the "#1 NFL handicapper of all-time" at the same monitor.
Biggest winning streak in last 24 months?
The last 24 months have been very good to me and have included numerous lengthy winning streaks. Recently, I had an 18-4 streak going during the recent NBA playoffs which was complemented by a 32-13 NHL streak. While I also recently had a 23-5 'totals' run, I'm more proud of my overall consistent results than I am of any "hot streaks."
Handicapping style?
By nature, I'm a "contrarian." This trait is often revealed in my selections. In other words, many of my plays tend to be opposite the plays of the majority of the betting public. I should clarify that I don't consciously choose to go against the public, more often than not, it just works out that way. Otherwise, I'm somewhat hard to "define" as a handicapper, as I really don't rely on any one particular methodology. Rather, I combine fundamental, technical and situational techniques, making use of any and all data, which I deem to be relevant. I always pay particular attention to the 'situational' side of things. This includes trying to determine when (and why) a team will be extra motivated ("pumped up") to play its best and also when a team may be ripe for a "letdown." It also includes determining whether the teams will be fresh or whether fatigue will be a factor.
Sports you have the best feel for?
I've had winning AND losing seasons in all sports. That said, I feel confident in my ability to beat them all. While it does vary from year to year, my pro sports are typically stronger than my college ones. The NFL and NHL have been particularly kind to me. In all sports, I tend to fare especially well in the playoffs/postseason. I've also always enjoyed a lot of success with football and basketball totals.
Teams/Conference/Geographic area you have the best feel for?
This varies from year to year. I'm constantly searching for 'value' against the number and that often involves wagering on low profile teams and/or wagering against teams which the public has fallen in love with.
Details of analysis provided with best bets?
I take pride in my game analysis and always provide members with several reasons why I am releasing each selection. While it varies somewhat, depending on my schedule, my typical analysis is about three paragraphs.
When are picks typically released?
Weekday picks and daily sports are typically released by/before 11 am ET, on the day of the game. Weekend football selections are always posted by Friday - often as early as Tuesday or Wednesday.
Motto
Sports handicapping is both my job and my passion. I work incredibly long hours and am proud of the product that I release. My game writeups and longterm records speak for themselves.
