721 N.C.-Wilmington 7.5 (-110) 5Dimes vs 722 Virginia
dime bet
Analysis:As usual, it's tough to score against Tony Bennett's Virginia (5), which once again leads the nation in scoring "D" (55.6 ppg) and ranks highly in FG % defense (39.6% ranks 13th). At the same time, the Cavs had more trouble scoring than recent Charlottesville editions featuring current NBA rookie star Malcolm Brogdon (Bucks), with overworked sr. PG London Perrantes (12.5 ppg) the only DD scorer, and have had some real difficulty digging out of deficits. All reflected in a slow 6-7 SU close to the season after sitting 16-3 into late January.
The style contrast with high-pressure, go-go UNCW (12) is stark. The Seahawks are also not new to these surroundings, having given Duke a pretty good go in the first round last year, and leading wire-to-wire in the CAA despite wearing a big target all season. UNCW's 85 ppg offense is also efficient (fifth nationally in points per possession), and its tantalizing backcourt featuring Gs C.J. Bryce, Chris Flemmings, and Denzel Ingram combines to score nearly 50 ppg. Though Wilmington is a but undersized and vulnerable on defense, UVa's stagnant offense might not be able to capitalize. Before Seahawk HC and Rick Pitino disciple Kevin Keatts gets pulled away to a bigger job (which could happen soon), UNCW might have a surprise up its sleeve vs. a somewhat-flawed favorite. Play UNCW
