Analysis:1* Take Miami (#905)
The Mets are a tad bit fat and happy after sweeping the
worst team in baseball, taking all three games of their just concluded series
against the Phillies. It’s not going to
be easy for New York to continue their winning ways today as they step up in
class against the Marlins, especially without key bat David Wright in the lineup. This is not one of the more potent lineups
in baseball, by any stretch of the imagination.
Three everyday players are hitting below .200 and the Lucas Duda/Travis
d’Arnaud/Michael Cuddyer/Juan Lagares quartet that is hitting above .200 doesn’t
keep opposing pitchers up at night.
That’s good news for Miami starter Jarred Cosart, coming off
an absolute gem against the Rays in his season debut; throwing six innings of
one run ball. Marlins manager Mike
Redmond: “I liked his focus. He was really
locked in. If he pitches like that, we'll win a lot of those games. I was
really happy with the way he pitched." Current Mets have a grand total of five hits
(only one for extra bases) against Cosart in their careers. The Marlins bullpen behind him is in good
shape following Dan Haren’s three hit gem yesterday.
Miami had a truly miserable
first week of the season; finding ways to lose on a nightly basis. But they’ve bounced back strong with two
straight wins against the Braves, pounding out 14 runs on 19 hits in the
process. This lineup has a lot more
punch than the Mets lineup does, especially with Dee Gordon starting to hit at
the top of the order and key middle of the order bats Michael Morse and
Giancarlo Stanton finding their stroke in the last two games.
Mets starter Dillon Gee is no
ace, simply keeping the rotation spot warm for one of New York’s top prospects
until they get called up. He struggled
mightily in his season debut against the Braves and I wouldn’t expect a
shutdown effort tonight either. The plus
price return for the Marlins here is a clear ‘take’ price for this bettor. Take the
Marlins.
