663 Vanderbilt 3.0 (-110) Westgate vs 664 Stanford
dime bet
Analysis:The line is heading away from Stanford here, and I said last night that it looked way too easy to take the Cardinal, especially given Vanderbilt's travel schedule. The sharp money should be on the 'Dores so I will be, too. Just entering them as 1* plays so as to bet the same on both games. And sh*t on me for not waiting for the better number - but I don't THINK it matters. If it did, it might well have gone there 24 hours ago. Anyhow, Vanderbilt went coast-to-coast-to-coast here, which is the only reason I can find not to take them. They're getting better every week, having been beaten (aside from the SEC Tournament loss to UT) twice since the end of January, once in Gainesville by three and once at home in OT to the Vols (again). That also tells me that that's the type of team (slower/defensive) that they might struggle with, and that's not Stanford. The Cardinal will run. But, Vanderbilt can match their size and both teams get to the line a ton - the issue I have is that Vanderbilt is a great outside shooting team and Stanford is not a great perimeter defending team. If Stanford is going to win this game they're going to have to shoot from the outside, and against Rhode Island (who is MUCH smaller) they shot 2-13 from behind the arc. If they do that again they won't win this game. Vanderbilt just doesn't have any horrid losses and played Kentucky fairly tough early in the season. We know what we're getting. Stanford, even with Dawkins as the coach, has really not had the signature win I'd like to see, and were totally dismantled mentally by Utah. I think they're still living on their NIT victory three years ago, and since then have taken a step or two backwards - if not statistically and on the court, at least in their head/expectations. Vanderbilt HAD no expectations this season, being so young, so I'll give Stallings and the wide-eyed Freshmen the nod. They ALL can shoot and it only takes ONE to completely go off in a game to win it. They've only got one kid on their roster from the State of Tennessee - that surprised me. Kudos to Stallings. Anyhow - Stanford has one big man - Nastic - then serious youth behind him. Another game where if Nastic gets in foul trouble (he has been in four of the last five games) then Stanford is in real trouble. Pick Made: Mar 24 2015 7:20AM PST
