triple-dime bet 233 Mississippi -3.0 (-110) Bookmaker.com vs 234 Georgia Tech
Results: W, $300
Analysis: 233 Mississippi & Georgia Tech in Nashville
Mississippi was one of those teams that stayed under the national radar because of playing in the always tough SEC. With a 7-5 record and losses to Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Missouri and Mississippi State. Other than the Bulldogs each of the other defeats came against highly ranked opposition. This is a defense that has held six straight opponents to 24 points or less. Ole Miss has been bowling five times since 2002 winning every game by margins of 21, 14, 13, 3 and 4 points. The Rebels were never favored by more than 3 1/2 points in any of those games. Head Coach Hugh Freeze has experience in the postseason after guiding Arkansas State to a bowl win and cover last year.
Georgia Tech has been bowling each of the last five years under Paul Johnson. He's done a fine regular season job in Atlanta but the postseason hasn't been as kind, especially offensively. The Yellow Jackets are 1-4 under Johnson in bowl action scoring a combined 72 points in the process. Last year they put up 21 against USC after averaging 12.6 ppg more in the regular season. In 2011 GT scored 27 against Utah after putting up 7.3 ppg more on the year. In 2010 they were held to 7 against Air Force, a full 19 points less than its regular season average. 2009 saw 14 vs Iowa, again 19.8 points per game less than the regular season average. And finally in 2008 the Yellow Jackets put up 3 against LSU, a good 21.4 ppg less than they averaged during the year.
The point of all this is that the option in which Paul Johnson runs is tough to prepare for during the year. But with extra time to get ready the numbers for Georgia Tech are severely diminished. We will take this SEC defense with plenty of time to work on the option to easily grab this win and cover.
