Analysis: Almost in any sport we love to back home underdogs, and in this case it may well be perception versus reality. Aaron Cook has a "reputation" for being a batting practice pitcher, but when he's on (and he has been) he will induce more ground ball outs than almost anyone in the Majors. I have looked to fade Santana all year and won't stop now. The guy can be a home-run-allowing machine, and the only reason this line is where it is is the perception that the Angels will simply run up the score. Santana is off a good outing, but against the Indians so we've got to discredit that to some extent. He's go a .291 batting average against on the road, and an ERA well over 6.00. The Angels pen was brutalized by the Rays, while Boston, even playing the Yankees in the Bronx, has managed to hold their own. Factor in the long trip East for Los Angeles, and the pressure they now have to put up or shut up, and Boston is just in a better spot. Yes, it's always tough to know which Red Sox team will show up, but with a day off and Nava expected to be activated and start (he's a spark big time) this is a premium play for us.
