Analysis: I'm backing the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night. Edinson Volquez is living up to his billing. The righthander owns a 26-16 record and a 3.80 ERA in 63 pre-all star appearances. But he's 14-21 in 55 career outings after the break, saddled with a hefty 5.45 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and .275 BAA. Volquez has been roughed-up in his last three trips to the bump, allowing 15 earned runs, 15 hits, 11 walks, and 4 home runs in just 10 innings of work. San Diego has allowed 5.3 rpg in his last seven road starts and I doubt it's going to get any better against a Braves' team averaging over 5 rpg against righthanders in 2012. At the same time, the Padres are averaging about 3 1/2 rpg against lefthanders since the start of the 2011 season! Tonight, they'll face red-hot Paul Maholm. The righty is off to a great start with the Braves, and in fact, he's been on fire over his last eight starts, sporting a 1.20 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a 0.45 HR's per 9 IP mark. The Braves are on a 20-7 run as chalk. They're also 10-3 in their last 13 at home and on a 6-1 run at home against righthanded starters. More of the same. I'm playing the Braves on Wednesday. Thanks!
