Analysis: I've waited and waited, again.
For all intents and purposes the Cardinals are about out of the
race now, and honestly, losing two of three to the Cubs was almost
like a double-dagger in the heart. St. Louis is an under .500 road
team this season, and the last road series they won was at Miami,
when all three games were one run games. In most of Lohse's last
eight (or so) starts, he's given up more flyball outs than not, and
in this field you may not be able to get away with that. Especially
since Gonzalez, Helton, and Cuddyer all have hit him well. I did
hear the Fowler was scratched and went home sick, but he had hit a
lick off of Lohse anyways, so there's nowhere to go but
up.
Loshe has simply not pitched past the 7th inning much, and the
Cardinal bullpen has just been awful on the road this season, with
a 4.48 ERA. The Rockies pen has actually been quite good, and is
rested after the day off.
Francis, ah yes. We used to like to fade him. He held the
Cardinals to three runs in St. Louis earlier this season and in his
last three starts at Coors Field didn't/hasn't allowed more than
two earned runs. He's simply been keeping the ball on the ground,
which is the key in this park. Lohse hasn't been doing that!
I had thought we'd take this over at 10, but that wasn't
widely available, and I see this (the total) starting to come back
down a bit, which is what makes this an even better play. The lower
the score the more valuable the runs are, so we're firing our big
play today on the Rockies RL. We won't be greedy and take the ML,
and one or two more plays coming here very soon.
Well, that was as painless as the Yankees total. Damn
it.
