Steelers have been favored in 6 prior Super Bowls. They won all 6 of those games.Steelers have been underdogs in 1 prior Super Bowl. They lost that game. The Las Vegas favorite has won 32 of 44 Super Bowls (73%) overall.COMMENT: How do you consider a stat like this in your handicapping?
As a Steelers fan, I take heart in the fact that at -2.5 this is a very low line to be favored by.
Honestly, I don't take it into consideration at all. I just don't do trends like that. Hopefully it's does hit again because I like Green Bay! Ha. But going into last year, I think tails hit for something like six years in a row on the coin toss, and it finally landed on heads last year. So that stat would say "The coin flip had landed on tails 6 of the last 7 years..." which makes me think nothing because that literally is a 50/50 coin flip and the last 7 years are irrelevant to this particular year.
That is just my take on it though. I know there are trend players out there who obviously look at this stuff pretty hard.
If Pouncey's status improves and is expected to play, do you think they will re-adjust the lines? Also I don't think the spread will be as important if it stays under a field goal unless you plan to tease it....I dont think you can consider that stat too much RJ, when you also have a Big Ben Stat of 2-0 in Superbowls. I like stats & trends and always find them nice to support a play, but try not to read too into them as much as into reading into the two teams that are playing each other, as you can usually find stats to say or support either side in a game(but like I've seen you say, some stats are more important than others)....I do find it odd that the team everyone was predicting to win Superbowl (Green Bay) all pre-season and there after is in the Superbowl now(do sports radio & tv guys ever get it right) I think thinks that's as far as they go though...Call me paranoid, but I swear Vegas or Bookmakers(or whoever you call em) pay people on ESPN & other mainstream sports shows to spread disinformation to their viewers to help lead the sheep to be slaughtered.....
