Yankees alone have same chance as the three other teams combined!

Las Vegas, Nevada (October 13, 2009) - Using Las Vegas odds, the teams expected to make and win the World Series can be identified. RJ Bell of Pregame.com provides the most accurate possible consensus of a sporting event's true odds.

Odds to win the 2009 World Series:

New York Yankees: 1 to 1 (50% chance)
LA Dodgers: 5 to 1 (16.6% chance)
Philadelphia Phillies: 5 to 1 (16.6% chance)
Los Angeles Angels: 5 to 1 (16.6% chance)

Series Odds:

Dodgers are a -115 favorite over the Phillies, meaning the Dodgers have a 54% chance of winning the series. The Yankees are a -170 favorite over the Angles, meaning New York has a 63% chance of winning the series.

The odds stated above have been adjusted through a proprietary Pregame.com formula to remove the commission charged by sportsbooks. Without this adjustment, the odds against a result are understated substantially (often upwards of 50%). For example, an event whose true odds are 10-1 against will often be incorrectly stated as 7-1 against (the difference is the commission charged by the sportsbook). As a result, there is an overstatement of the chances of the event happening. The failure of nearly all widely circulated odds to account for this adjustment makes those numbers unreliable and misleading.
