GoodFella's NBA Notes Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Phiadelphia @ Indiana

-This is the 4th meeting between these two teams this season, with Philly being 2-1 SU & 1-1-1 ATS in the 3 previous meetings. All 3 games were within 5 pts. Indiana is 4-1-1 ATS the L/6 games between these two teams-

-Philly is on a 4 game win streak & they have taken off since Elton Brand went down with a season ending injury, as the team truely knows what style of ball they need to play to be the most successful, & that is getting out & running.

-Philly just completed a very nice 5-2 SU & 3-2-2 ATS 7 game homestand before the all-star break & Philly is 5-1 SU & ATS their L/6 road games-

-Indiana has won their L/2 games at home, & those home wins were over NBA elite teams Cleveland & Orlando. Indy is also 7-3 ATS their L/10 home games & Indiana has 3 key players (Dunleavy, Foster & Daniles)  from their rotation who are questionable for tonight's game.

Milwaukee @ Detroit

-Detroit is 3-0 SU & ATS vs Milwaukee this season & the average margin of victory for Detroit in those 3 games is 9 ppg & Detroit is also 4-2 ATS the L/6 home games vs the Bucks-

-Detroit is on a 3 game losing streak  they are just 1-6 SU & 0-7 ATS their L/7 home games-

-Milwaukee is on a 2 game winning streak & are coming off home wins over both Houston & Indiana before the all-star break, but Milwaukee is just 1-5 SU & ATS their L/6 road games-

-The total has gone OVER in 4 of the L/5 games between these two teams-

San Antonio @ New York

-San Antonio beat NY 92-80 as 4.5 pt favorites back on Nov. 11th & San Antonio is 7-0 SU vs New York, but just 1-3 ATS the L/4 vs NY-

-San Antonio is coming off a 2 pt loss AT Toronto the game before the all-star break. That was a terrible spot for the Spurs however, as that was their 3rd game in 4 days on their current 8 game east coast road trip-

-NY is on a 6 game losing streak & they are 0-3 SU & 1-2 ATS their L/3 home games, with the 3 losses coming vs the NBA's elite teams (Lakers, Celtics & the Cavs).

-NY is 6-2 ATS their L/8 home games & 10-3 ATS their L/13 games overall, while San Antonio is 10-3 SU their L/13 games & 6-1-1 ATS their L/8 games overall & they are also 7-5-1 ATS as road favorites this season-

New Orleans @ Oklahoma City

-New Orleans is 2-0 SU & 1-1 ATS vs Oklahoma City this season, as they won AT Oklahoma City 105-80 as 10 pt road favs back on Nov. 21st & New Orleans won AT New Orleans 109-97 as 15 pt favorites on Nov. 22nd-

-New Orleans host Orlando tomorrow night, so the Hornets could very well be looking ahead at that matchup vs the lowly Thunder tonight & New Orleans is also just 1-4 S & ATS their L/5 road games-

-Oklahoma City is 4-1 SU & 3-2 ATS their L/5 home games, but they are 0-5 SU & 2-3 ATS their L/5 games vs New Orleans overall-

-Oklahoma City is 7-3 SU & 10-0 ATS their L/10 games as home underdogs-

LA Clippers @ Phoenix

-Phoenix beat the Clippers 109-103 AT the Clippers as 9 pt road favorites, back on Jan. 11th & Phoenix beat the Clippers AT Phoenix 106-98 as 13 pt favs back on Jan. 2nd . A healthy Clippers team will be looking to avenge that home loss to Phoenix tonight-

-Phoenix fired head coach Terry Porter over the all-star break & assistan Alvin Gentry is taking over a Phoenix team that is a mess chemistry wise. Apparently Gentry will have Phoenix much more of a up-tempo team like they have been in the past, & the coaching change could really give the team & its players & huge boost to come out and show something in Gentry's 1st game as head coach-

-Phoenix is a terrible 8-16 ATS at home this season & they are 0-4 ATS the L/4 games vs the Clippers-

-Clippers have won 3 of their L/4 games going into the all-star break & I really think when this team is healthy & has all their key players like they have recently, this is a very dangerous & undervalued team-

Atlanta @ LA Lakers

-This is the 1st meeting between these teams this season, & they split their 2 games last season, as Atlanta won AT Atlanta 98-95 as 3.5 pt home dogs & the Lakers winning at LA 122-93 as 11 pt favorites. LA is 3-1 SU & ATS their L/4 games vs Atlanta-

-Lakers lost their last game before the all-star break AT Utah, in what was a very difficult spot for the Lakers in that game, as they were not only playing their 3rd game in 4 days, but they were extermely travel weary, having traveled all over the country-

-Lakers had won 11 of their L/12 games SU before the Utah loss, but they are also just 3-6 ATS their L/9 home games & the Lakers are just 5-8 ATS at home vs Eastern Conference teams this season, while Atlanta is 6-3 ATS on the road vs Western Conference teams this season-

-Atlanta has won 4 of their L/5 games SU & are 4-1 ATS their L/5 as well & they are coming off a 4 pt road win AT Detroit in their last game before the all-star break-

GoodFella's PREGAME PRO Selections

  • Ginobili sidelined by soreness in right ankle

    Manu Ginobili - G - SA - Feb. 17

Manu Ginobili will not play on Tuesday against the Knicks due to soreness in his right ankle.

This is not the same ankle that Ginobili had surgically repaired prior to the season, but nevertheless, he is having tests on Tuesday to determine the cause of pain he's been experiencing since prior to the All-Star break. Ginobili's status for games on Thursday and Saturday depends on the results of the tests and how much discomfort he's feeling. If you're in a weekly league and still have the opportunity to bench Ginobili, it's probably a good idea to do so.

AK-47 expected to return to action Tuesday

    Andrei Kirilenko - F - UTA - Feb. 17

Pending one final evaluation by doctors, Andrei Kirilenko is expected to return to action on Tuesday against the Grizzlies.

Coach Jerry Sloan plans to limit him to less than 30 minutes a game initially, so if you have other options it may be wise to bench Kirilenko until he has played a couple of games and gotten back into a rhythm.

    C's Trade Sam Cassell

The Celtics traded Sam Cassell to the Kings in order to clear a roster spot and it may be so that they can sign Stephon Marbury.

Dunleavy not expected to play vs. Sixers

    Mike Dunleavy - G/F - IND - Feb. 17

Mike Dunleavy is not expected to play on Tuesday because of lingering soreness in his right knee.

Dunleavy missed the two games before the break with the injury, which also cost him the first 34 games of the regular season. The Pacers are saying this one isn't as serious, but he should be benched in all leagues until further notice. Jarrett Jack looks like the guy to pick up if you're looking for a sleeper to fill in.

Rudy Gay should be ready to play on Tuesday

    Rudy Gay - G/F - MEM - Feb. 17

The Grizzlies were expected to have Rudy Gay (hip flexor), Kyle Lowry (ankle) and Darrell Arthur (personal reasons) back for Monday's practice. It sounds like all three will be available for Tuesday's game.

Memphis plays three times this week, and it should be safe to put Gay in your lineups. Lowry's return could infringe on Mike Conley's playing time, if slightly, while Darrell Arthur's return means more competition for Hakim Warrick.

    Greg Oden - C - Trail Blazers

Greg Oden's agent, Mike Conley Sr. said he doesn't think Oden's knee injury is serious, but it does sound like Oden has been labeled as "game-to-game" for the time being.

"I don't think it's that serious at all," Conley said Monday. "He's going to rest it. After he hurt it he went back in the game, and that's where I think the swelling came from. It's a game-by-game situation, but it's more precautionary than anything." Oden said he probably could have played in the Rookie Challenge had it been a real game. Consider him questionable for Wednesday's game vs. the Grizzlies. Feb. 16 - 9:23 p.m. ET

Hornets' Chandler not likely to play vs. OKC

    Tyson Chandler - C - NO - Feb. 17

Tyson Chandler, who has missed 12 straight games with a sprained left ankle, aggravated the injury in Monday's practice and it now sounds like he will be in street clothes for Tuesday's game against the Thunder.

"I'm trying to do everything in my will to stay on the court," Chandler said. "It's just not where I want to be or where the trainers wanted me to be." Chandler is still dealing with swelling in the ankle and it is possible he could miss the entire week. Bench him for now.

Suns' Richardson suspended for one game

    Jason Richardson - G/F - PHO - Feb. 16

Jason Richardson has been suspended for one game by the Suns after his arrest for driving 90 miles per hour in a 35 m.p.h. zone with his 3-year-old son unrestrained in the back seat.

He'll sit out Tuesday's game against the Clippers, meaning guys like Leandro Barbosa, Grant Hill and even Matt Barnes could have a big line that night. He was also cited for DUI on Dec. 21

    Kirilenko still targeting Tuesday return

    Andrei Kirilenko - F - UTA - Feb. 16 - 9:28 p.m. ET

Andrei Kirilenko was set to return to practice Monday and is hopeful he can play Tuesday against Memphis.

It's been less than three weeks since AK-47 had right ankle surgery and it's hard to believe he is already set to return. There are no guarantees he plays on Tuesday, but it sounds like he's leaning in that direction.

    Tracy McGrady - G/F - Rockets

Tracy McGrady will not play on Tuesday against the Nets and will spend time this week visiting out-of-town doctors in order to get more opinions on his sore left knee.

"I didnt expect to see him," said coach Rick Adelman after he missed Monday's practice. "Hes gonna get second opinions and we just have to deal with who we have right now and get ready for this game (tonight) and see if we can build something." Bench T-Mac until further notice.
