St. Louis Rams at New England Patriots [7:30 PM ET] Team Tips Top Trends Key Injuries RAMS: St. Louis showed much improvement between their 1st and 2nd preseason game. After getting annihilated against the Vikings, the Rams showed grit in beating Cleveland away from home. Both preseason games thus far for St. Louis have gone over the posted total. The Sam Bradford era has begun for the Rams, and so far it's not pretty. Bradford has only thrown for 81 YDS this preseason, with a QB rating of only 51.6. Backup Keith Null hasn't been any better, as he has only thrown for 76 YDS, with a QB rating of 43.0 this preseason. Certainly the Rams are going to need better QB play if they are going to be any better than what their record showed last year. Despite being 1-1 this preseason, the Rams have been outgained through the air and on the ground in each of their preseason games. St. Louis is going to have to show some true grit if they are to make up for the talent gap with other teams this season. Projected Score: 10 Rams are 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason. None Reported. PATRIOTS: (-7.5, O/U 37.5) New England has started this preseason off quite sharp, winners of both of their preseason games. The Patriots offense in particular has been brilliant, scoring 28 and 27 PTS respectively. New England is always going to be led by QB Tom Brady, but his backup QB Brian Hoyer has been quite efficient himself. Hoyer has thrown for 200 YDS this preseason, and had a QB rating of 91.4%. Defensively, the Patriots limited the Falcons to only 10 PTS. Both games New England has played this preseason have gone over the posted total. This is going to be a different year for the Patriots, as they are welcoming several new faces to a team that is used to playing veterans. The biggest training camp battle is with the TE position. Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez are fighting it out for top billing in a pass happy offense.Projected Score: 27 (SIDE of the Day) Patriots are 2-0 both SU and ATS this preseason. WR Wes Welker (knee) is out. Indianapolis Colts at Green Bay Packers [ESPN | 8:00 PM ET] Team Tips Top Trends Key Injuries COLTS: Indianapolis is proving yet again what so many have figured out over the years. The Colts simply don't care about winning in the preseason, regardless of who is coaching the team. It appears to be a front office decision, as there simply isn't any desire to win preseason games. The Colts have lost both games thus far by a total of 33 PTS. QB Peyton Manning obviously leads this Colts team, and so far this preseason his time on the field has been brief. Manning has thrown for 182 YDS, with 1 TD and 1 INT this preseason for a QB rating of 82.4. Backup Curtis Painter has shown a bit of promise, at least after his demise in the first preseason game. The most troublesome thing to come out of training camp for Indianapolis has been their defense. The Colts have allowed 34 and 37 PTS respectively, to the Bills and the 49ers. Indianapolis has been outgained by an average of 85 YPG to 2 relatively weakly offenses. Manning will certainly do his part this season, but will the Colts defense step up once the regular season begins?Projected Score: 23 Colts are 0-2 both SU and ATS this preseason. C Jeff Saturday (knee) is questionable. PACKERS: (-3.5, O/U 44.5) Green Bay has been very inconsistent this preseason, with both preseason games ending in a final score of 27-24. While only 1-1 this preseason, the Packers have shown how brilliant their offense is, while troublesome defensive play emerges. Starting QB Aaron Rodgers has been brilliant this preseason, with a QB Rating of 154.0. Rodgers has thrown for 275 YDS this year, while completing 83% of his passes with 3 TD's. Backup QB Matt Flynn has thrown well too, he just needs to work on his decision making as he does have 2 INT's. Not only has the Packers defense struggled, the special teams units haven't done the team any favors. This preseason, the kickoff coverage has allowed huge return yardage, while also muffing the football in situations. Green Bay is a Super Bowl contender, if and when the defense and special teams step up to the level in which their offense is currently at.Projected Score: 27 (OVER-Total of the Day) Packers are 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason. CB Al Harris (knee) is out.
