Weekend Short Blog #1: NBA RoundUp for 3/20

Second verse, same as the first; another day, another play that covers for 47 minutes, and loses, somehow, in the final 60 seconds. Just par for the course, these days.

A good buddy of mine reminded me, though, that while it's very easy to get caught up in our bad luck - and believe me, this is about as bad as the luck will get - we are still RIGHT WHERE WE WANTED TO BE at this point in the season when we set our goals a few months back. We've taken a bit of a circuitous route, repeatedly going, roughly, 7-6 every week for the month of January, then dominating February before curling off a bit of a stinker in March so far. But, when all is said and done, we're winning, and if we try to forget how brutal this last week has been and just look at the results as a whole, I think we can all be pretty pleased.

It's that fresh taste of getting shot in the heart the last couple nights that gives us the FEELING that things aren't going well, and short term, let's be honest, they're not. The last week has been riddled with bad beats, injuries, overtime periods that ruin perfectly good bets, and general malaise. But the bad breaks won't last forever - they never do. We're righting the ship, and there is certainly something to the notion that when it takes these kinds of endings just to beat us, we're onto something, and we're going to keep hammering it until the storm stops.

I think I've figured out the PERFECT middle ground on blog writing, by the way, to keep me from losing my precious sanity. On WEEKENDS, each game will be LEANS ONLY, and you guys can feel free to ask about any particular game. I'll respond to questions on weekends specifically, but you'll still see which way I'm leaning on EVERY game on the card. It just won't be in eloquent prose, like usual! I'll try to include the most important angle I'm considering in each game, though obviously there are many others going unlisted. Let's see how this goes.

Sports Wagering

Bulls @ Sixers - This line is OFF. Lean to Philly (yes, even though they took a metaphorical dump on us last night), and lean to Over.

Raptors @ Nets - This line is OFF. Lean to the Nets (Toronto on back-to-back), lean to the Over.

Bobcats @ Heat - Miami by 6 with a total of 182.5. Lean to Charlotte (Miami just can't get over that hump), and lean to the Over.

Warriors @ Grizzlies - This line is OFF. Lean to Warriors (GS off huge loss, Grizzlies giving up on season), and lean to the Over.

Hornets @ Jazz - This line is OFF. No lean on the side, slight lean to the Over.

Bucks @ Nuggets - Denver by 9 with a total of 205. Lean to Denver (you guys know my take on this situation, and add 2-OT - yikes!), and lean to the Under.

Celtics @ Mavericks - Dallas by 4 with a total of 202. Lean to the Celtics (because no one expects them to play strong two nights in a row), lean to the Under.

  • POP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hahaha.... you weren't kidding about keeping it short and sweet.... GO DENVER tomorrow!!! Gonna nail the Denver 1st half line HARD.

  • Apparently the offering to the gambling gods didn't do much for our luck last night, so it's back to the norm for Saturday -

  • so dallas would only be 2 point favs if the celtics weren't playing B2B? very interesting.

in honor of dan, i'll give em short and sweet too - love the nets. like the nuggs.

  • Denmark - nice win for your THUNDAAAA!  Was out having some sangria with the lady, myself.  Was obviously hoping to come home to see that the Sixers HADN'T blown another of our plays, but right now, I'm starting to get desensitized to bad beats...just downright SILLY how these games are shaking out lately!

  • David - great work again on that PROP BET!

One thing to consider - it's tough to make prop bets on guys with 3 STATS.  I would say that long term you might want to stick to 2-category props or 1 if such a deal is available.  With 3 category props, if that player doesn't pull his weight in any one department, it can really deal your prop bet a hurting.

  • Tony -

I hear ya, man; this has been a BRUTAL week.  But we need to PUT IT ALL IN PERSPECTIVE!

We all had 3 GREAT weeks in a row, and 1 bad week shouldn't completely annihilate our wins from all those beatings we laid back in mid-late February and the beginning of this month.

Just try to stay somewhat detached.  We can all get pissed, but being angry makes one loss FEEL like 6, and 3 losses feels like you'll never win again in your life, but we all know how sharp we are here in this blog, and we've been in a cold stretch before.  We can't go abandoning what got us here, and it's important to keep sticking with it, especially when the world is trying to deal us a beating.

  • yeah... i saw the 3 category as a bonus though... I figured without Curry he could pull 36.5 in just points and assists, so I was actually surprised it was 3 categories (because I saw the number before I saw the categories).   Can't wait for props for tomorrow... maybe another JR Smith one (lol)

  • SWEET WORK, Waterboy!

Too bad my stupid Sixers kept you from a perfect day!  I've got the reverse Midas touch right now.  There's no sense fighting it, just need to stay relaxed and the winners will come - I've been betting NBA for a long time, and cold stretches can KILL a bankroll if we're not careful, but you nailed some winners, and it's important that we all take things slow and make sure that we get our ships righted.  You did a FINE job of just that, today!

  • Hahaha, how about JR Smith not scoring a single point in the 2nd half???  That one looked like it was going to cruise to a JR Smith 30 point night, and he just went ICE COLD like all of his teammates, and the Nugs shot 40% against one of the worst defenses in the NBA

    Hope you're reading this - I AGREE!

Sometimes it happens where it feels like the world is against you -- just keep your head up.  We all lose 3 in a row; we all lose 5 in a row; it happens.  It's frustrating - believe me, I want to destroy things when it happens, but if we get angry and change our routine, then it only gets worse.

Try to take some time to level your head and get back at it when your mind is clear.

  • Tedro -

That's all we can do, man.  Just laugh.  It's SICKENING how the NBA is teasing us with 47 minutes of covering before crushing our spirits.

My suggestion is to NOT watch our bet tomorrow.  It might still suck if we lose, but it certainly won't CRUSH OUR SOULS watching what appears to be a winner ALL NIGHT only to have our team blow it in the last few seconds...AGAIN...

  • G -

I can't say I completely feel your pain, because I didn't play that Sac game, but my god - DOUBLE OT????

We are just in one of those, pardon the expression, SHITSTORMS right now, where no matter how much value we're getting, the dice are coming up snake-eyes.

That is just STUPID that the Kings and Bucks couldn't find a way to win in regulation or even in OT, and once again the underdog gets punked in an extra period.  So stupid.

I feel for you, I really do.

Just don't even watch the game tomorrow - don't subject yourself to 3 hours of what appears to be a sure winner, then a few seconds of awful awful pain.

And if it REALLY gets to you, take a day off.  It's not the end of the world, and it might help you collect your thoughts and get back in the right mindset.

It ain't easy.  Last night was about as irritated and upset as I've been all year, but I'm feeling a little more cool (like a cucumber) tonight, and I think I'm ready to tackle tomorrow.

On top of that, I think your leans for this card are SPOT ON, my man!

  • MLdogs -

HOORAY FOR CAL!  That's all I'm saying to that!  Love that my bears finally did something GOOD in an important, big game!!!!
