Andre Gomes MLB First Card of the Season

As always my first plays of any sports is for free, good luck!

DETROIT (0 - 1) at TORONTO (1 - 0)
Tuesday,
4/7/2009 7:07 PM EDWIN JACKSON (R) vs. DAVID PURCEY (L)

Last night the Blue Jays pounded the Tigers 12-5 and once again ace Roy Halladay showed why he is one of the best pitchers of the league and there was a huge mismatch between the pitchers. I think that we have another mismatch tonight but the wrong pitcher is favored tonight.

David Purcey is coming from an inconsistent rookie season finishing with 58 strikeouts and 29 walks over 65 innings in 12 starts. Naturally it is expected that Purcey continues his development this season and in this spring season he had a stellar 1.54 ERA in 23 1/3 innings. However he ended with a lowly 13/10 K/BB ratio and for me this is the most relevant factor. Note that the Tigers have a potent offense and if there is one positive fact from the last season debacle is that the Tigers finished with a positive record against Left Handed Pitchers 25-22 with 5.2 runs/game, much better than the 71-86 total record.

Meanwhile for the Tigers RHP Edwin Jackson will start for the first time for the Tigers. Jackson is coming from a strong Spring Training by allowing a mere .176 average to opponents, amounting to 12 hits over 20 innings and in the last exhibition he beat the Blue Jays by allowing just one run over seven innings. Due to fact that Jackson played for the Rays last season he made 4 starts against the Blue Jays and 2-1 allowing nine earned runs over 24 1/3 innings. At Rogers Centre, however, he has never lost in five career starts, striking out 28 batters over 33 1/3 innings.

I understand that the Blue Jays are with momentum and they are coming from an impressive offensive performance last night but I believe that we have a mismatch for this contest and we have a great value as the best pitcher is the underdog tonight. Take the Tigers tonight.

Regular Play on Detroit ML +103

SEATTLE (1 - 0) at MINNESOTA (0 - 1)
Tuesday,
4/7/2009 8:10 PM ERIK BEDARD (L) vs. NICK BLACKBURN (R)

Last night the Mariners beat Minny in the first game of the season and the game ended with 7 runs scored. Note that the total line was 7.5 runs and for this contest we are dealing with 8 runs which is in my opinion a clear underrated line.

Felix Hernandez and Francisco Liriano probably still can't generate the buzz around them but they are two of the best young pitchers of this league and last night both aces made a terrific job. The problem is that today pitchers are a step behind them and I don't think such domination will happen tonight.

Nick Blackburn made a reasonable rookie season including a quality start in the last game of the season vs the White Sox but for this season Blackburn is trying to building back up after missing time with a sore left knee so I don't expect him to perform at their best and the Mariners lineup already showed last night that they can make some damage.

Meanwhile the Mariners send to the mound southpaw Erik Bedard who struggled in the spring training and he is dealing with problems to command his pitches. I expect the Twins to take advantage from it as facing Bedard is not the same thing that facing King Hernandez. Remember that the Twins had a good record of 33-20 Over against left-handed starters over the last 2 seasons and Bedard seems to struggle vs Minny as he is 0-5 when starting against Minny an ERA of 4.84 and a WHIP of 1.783.

Saying that I think that 8 runs is a pretty achievable line for us as both pitchers aren't right now on the best of their forms and that's why I'm taking the over in here.

Regular Play on Over 8 runs
