For those who haven't noticed, right about at kickoff (of the Super Bowl) Pinnaclesports.com (the online site that takes the most/biggest bets) was attacked and shut down by hackers and hasn't been back up since. Obviously one of its competitors is responsible. Who do you think did it and why wasn't Pinnacle prepared?
crazy shit bro
Still not up! How much money do you think this will end up costing Pinnacle?
Usually not a competitor. This was a common thing a few years back. Russians or Chinese hold the site hostage for a ransom. Almost every web site was hit it seemed over the season. One of the things that caused so many sites to have the back-up domains.

it is what it is
Not a tech person, but would the cloud aspect stop someone do a DENIAL OF SERVICE ATTACK?

I know we joke around a lot here but I would love to hear more about this!

Not really ... The denial of service request floods the web sever with authentication requests with false return addresses. The server attempts to complete the authentication for each of these requests, but cannot and eventually the request times out ... The process repeats itself until eventually the server crashes. The best way to prevent this type of attach is with a front-end sniffer/filter that examines the requests for frequent like patters and blocking those requests so they never reach the web server ...
DDOSing isnt hacking but it is illegal.

Seems like I have been hearing about DOS attacks for years. I'm obviously no expert but Im surprised Pinnacle wasnt able to defend themselves better.
