NFL Preseason
Steelers at Saints (-3, 44.5) - 8:00 pm ET
A lean towards New Orleans if this line drops down to -2.5 or less.
NFL teams go about preseason games in different ways. Some teams will just go thru the motions, and others actually use the games to prepare them for the regular season. It all depends on the coach’s philosophy.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin used to win a lot of preseason games. However, things have changed recently as the Steelers are just 2-13 SU in their last 15 preseason games under Tomlin. To show how far Pittsburgh has tailed off, the Steelers went 19-6 SU in their first twenty-five preseason games under Tomlin. Reports indicate that Tomlin will play his starters for at least the first quarter; none of the key starters played in the first two games.
New Orleans head coach Sean Payton has been ho-hum in preseason games, but he certainly puts an emphasis on Week 3; his teams have gone 8-2 SU in the “dress rehearsal” game. Payton has usually played his starters for the entire first quarter, and up to a full half in the third preseason game, so don’t expect anything different tonight.
A lean towards the Saints at -2.5 or less.
