Tony Romo had a great idea. Use his connections to bring around 100 NFL players, including DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant and Rob Gronkowski, to interact with fans at the National Fantasy Football Convention next month at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas.
Win-win spot, right? The players pick up some spare change while enjoying a Vegas vacation and fantasy football fans get to talk and learn from the real thing. Sounds like fun.
Too bad the greedy NFL had to spoil it. Even though the Sands Expo isn't a casino, the NFL banned the players from participating because the Expo happens to be connected to The Venetian casino.
"Players and NFL personnel may not participate in promotional activities or other appearances at or in connection with events that are held at or sponsored by casinos," an NFL spokesman said in an email statement to FOX Sports.
This would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic.
The NFL is all for fantasy football - an activity in which gambling is prevalent - but not in Las Vegas casinos where football interest in driven to its highest peak because of legalized sports wagering.
This sickening hypocrisy is only exceeded by the NFL's greed as they obviously are positioning themselves to set up their own fantasy football conventions so they can make money.
