The end of the first half of Dolphins/Ravens game is a prime example a few weeks ago...here is the scenario
1. 5-10 seconds left
2. Ravens inside the Dolphin's 5 yard line
Why didn't the Dolphins DBs just tackle the Ravens receivers when the ball is snapped instead of giving up the TD. Who cares about Pass Interference. The few extra yards they get is not going to matter. The first down is not going to matter. It doesn't matter if there the Ravens have a timeout because there is only time for one more play. Only the clock matters. Yeah, the half can't end on a defensive penalty, but with that one more play the Ravens will almost surely kick the field goal which will save the Dolphins 4 points.
I have seen this scenario several times in football and am wondering if I am missing something
