Last night the Broncos got a big 35-21 win & cover over the San Diego Chargers. We also note that the game went Over the total and Overs are now 19-4 in primetime NFL games this year.
Dave isn't sure that we learned a whole lot from last night. You have a 9 point favorite that was +2 in turnover and won by 14 points, which is pretty much what should have happened.
One thing that Dave has been impressed with is Peyton Manning's accuracy on downfield throws this year. He is throwing the ball like he did 10 years ago. Another thing he noticed was that Denver did a very good job on San Diego on first downs, which is something they struggled with vs them last year. They were forcing San Diego out of sync by doing so.
The Broncos came into the game with the best yards per play diff at +1.4 and last night were +1.2 ypp vs the Chargers. Denver was clearly the right side in the game, but there were a couple of fumbles that could have changed the outcome of the game. Also the defensive holding call on the Bolts late in the game.
Dave states that in a 2 TO game and a 5 point spread diff there probably wasn't a right or a wrong side, but if its just a 1 TO game then maybe San Diego gets the cover.
The Chargers have struggled 3 weeks in a row, so do they have a chance to turn it around? Dave states that San Diego struggled vs 3 division opponents that got a couple of looks vs Mike McCoy last year, but get them outside the division and they should be ok. Dave states its a good team, but they don't have a chance to be a great one.
