Tennessee Titans
When I dissect the Tennessee Titan franchise I see a team that is walking a thin like that is about to branch off in one of two possible directions. I can see this team taking the path on the right and continue to build success at becoming a playoff contender. I also see this team taking the path on the right which is the path of mediocrity that so many other teams in the NFL fall into. Without a doubt this team is in a transition year.
I believe the Titans have most of the pieces in place to become a good team. Possibly a playoff team. I don’t see that happening this year. I do see this team being competitive in most games. The Titans have a new coaching staff led by Ken Whisenhunt. He is no stranger to winning and building tough competitive teams. One thing I am afraid of is that the Titans will struggle running the ball this year. Its not that they don’t have a good offensive line its that they really don’t have a reliable running back. The Titans drafted Bishop Sankey as the first running back taken in the draft. From my past experience I have notice that teams relying on rookie running back usually don’t fare very well. Also at running back is the tough rumbling Shonn Green. He isn’t gonna break any long ones but is pretty darn good at running between the tackles. He is a tough runner. And at times through out his career looked to be establishing himself as an above average running back but other times he has just faded into obscurity. Regardless between Green and Sankey the Titans have to run the ball to be successful in the NFL. Just not sure these two guys can get it done. The potential is there.
For me the success of the Titans really hinges on the play of QB Jake Locker. When I watch this guy play I see all the tools to be a pro bowler. If he can cut down on his interceptions the sky is the limit for him. He really has elite skills. It just hasn’t shown in the stat sheets yet. Will this be the year he takes that giant step?
Last year Kendal Wright had a break out year for the Titans. I look for him to have continued success and be Locker’s go to guy. Wright is a great rout runner. He has an uncanny knack for getting open and making the first guy miss. He isn’t gonna beat many db’s deep or out leap them but he is a force out of the slot. I have him ranked at as my 15th wr on my draft sheet. I drafted him last year on my team and hopefully will draft him again this year. He is gonna be targeted a lot in this offense and is going to put up better numbers than last year. Opposite him is Justin Hunter, he came on strong last year and I look for him to have a bit of a break out year. Like I said earlier this team has a lot of talent. Now can they just put it all together in winning fashion?
The defensive line is stout as is most of the defense. Again this team has a really strong nucleus. It is just a question how this team is going to gel with Ken Whisenhunt's new schemes. I don’t look for this to be the best defense in the league but it is middle of road for sure. Which is better than being the worst defense in the league. I look fro the Titans to compete with the Texans for second place in this division. With a few lucky bounces and some great qb play maybe they finish second. I am predicting a 6-10 season.
