I taped a pilot for Discovery Channel with a firm out of London for the 2012 Super Bowl in Vegas. Myself and Teddy Covers, along with GET THIS...Stu Feiner and Steve Budin..it was a reality show based on handicappers ect...and the biggest reaction we got from the deal (public audience screenings) was scamsters and hype artists Stu and Steve...Teddy and I were the straight guys along with a unknown rookie guy named Mike Brown. Teddy and I who did our biz like we do everyday apparently was boring, and those other 2, Steve Stevens types, were touting 800 numbers and doing basically what Stevens does.....it went to test audiences and the the feedback was they LOVED Stu Feiner....because he is must watch TV...we all know he sucks as a capper...but that is what the audience wants....the hype, the pageantry of rolling big in Vegas, and all the surrounding drama. A true reality based handicapping show or even a documentary like Teddy's.... "Life on Line" ..docu-movie just cannot get center-stage, everyone loves a drama with characters..and I will admit I have watched 3 full episodes and it is funny how they roll...sad and funny at the same time if you are a legit guy in this business...because that is the only representation we have on national TV.
I have taped 2 pilots over the past 3 years....not enough hype and drama for TV once they see what we do behind the scenes. If I had a hyped up phone room I would have been on a show making bank...I refused to fake it or even attempt it.
