Last year Detroit got blasted in Soldier Field. Huge game here for the Lions, who if they lose would fall to three games behind the Bears in the NFC North standings. Detroit, as everyone knows, is a team that throws the football quite a bit. Bears have one of the better rush defenses in the league, so if the Lions try and run it's going to be tough, but we expect them to be effective with the run tonight.
But at the same time, the Bears secondary is going to have to come up huge the entire night. We were impressed with the Lions last week in their win over the Eagles at moving the ball up the field. Detroit has lost all three games by a combined 18 points and two of those were on the road.
Chicago typically runs a cover 2 defensive scheme, but we like Detroit being able to run the ball and get some screens to force the Bears out of that 2 deep safety look. Even more than that, the Lions tight ends are going to have to come up huge in this game tonight. It's obvious Calvin Johnson is going to be double covered the entire night, meaning Stafford will have to find open receivers and take what the defense gives them.
I really think they'll be able to run the football tonight. They've actually improved the run game since Mikel Leshoure has been able to play this season. On the flip side, we expect Detroit's defense to play better as well. They have given up way too many big plays this season, but did allow Philly to only 71 yards rushing last week.
Brandon Watson C.
Bears sack numbers misleading- most sacks beginning year and Cutler holds ball long time. Bears success running shows line improved. Detroit's defense much better last couple weeks, value under.
Griff, the Bears have DOMINATED the Lions in the past four years, winning seven of the eight games played between the two teams. Detroit's only win over Chicago since 2008 came at home last season, 24-13. In four of the past five games, the Lions would have covered the +7, including the outright win last year.
Sounds a lot like Ms. State playing Bama....haha
