Since the start of the 2009 NFL season there have been 5 games where the closing over/under line was 3.5 points higher than the opening over/under line.
In these games, the over performed better, going 3-1-1 (75.0%). Game totals went over the line by an average of 2.4 points.

The game went up because the wise guys always look to play MNF Over the total at the openers with two high scoring teams. They are just positioning themselves for a possible buyback.

Great observation Bryan. I'm sure you now this already, but perhaps everyone reading this blog does not, so I'll mention that with the increase in scoring in the NFL, 51 is very likely the new key number in NFL totals. So, if the guys pushing around the line can scoop 51, it's a great middle.
If you look at the past 20 years as a whole, 37 is the most frequently occurring total-point-scored in an NFL game. However, over the past two seasons it has dropped to 7th. Over the past 20 years a total-points-scored of 51 has been the third most frequently occurring (to 37 and 41 respectively). However, over the past couple of seasons 51 has occurred more frequently than either of these. So, 51 could be the new 37 in NFL totals wagering.
Bryan and Dr. Meyer,
That was worth clicking on! Thanks
