If you don't think that was a great game, then you've become so objective to sports (understandably) that you can't sit back and enjoy history in the making. Entertainment, great defense, back n forth turnovers, a live dog on the road in a hostile environment...this thing had more excitement and story lines than any game I've ever seen, more momentum shifts that I can count....someone tell me a better game in the last 30 years...I honestly can't think of one...a couple of recent SB maybe? You couldn't write a better script in Hollywood.
I also feel it's ridiculous that everyone is quick to dismiss McCarthy (not just "here" but nationally) ...let's remember how unbelievably efficient his offense has been, one of the top offenses in the league, and by the way is a SB champion....how quick we are to forget. Albeit, he has an All World Quarterback.
All that said, I'm not going to second guess the guy "too" much playing armchair QB....could he have made a few better decisions? Sure...but I'm not going to dismiss one of the best Coach/QB combinations in history.
Also, as far as the onside kick, which everyone is quick to point to (as the reason for the loss). Look, I was the one screaming NOT to do it! To that point, Seattle had done EXACTLY what you need to do in order to stay alive late in game down two scores, EXACTLY. You saved one time out & you scored before the two minute warning...essentially giving you two possessions late by being able to use 2 timeouts in the GB 4-min offense, and you're able to stop the clock 2 more times, leaving Wilson about 1:15-1:20 on the clock in quality field position with no timeouts to score the go ahead TD. I've seen so many teams go for the onside kick, FAIL, and now even if they get the stop, they've lost about 40 yards for field position, making it nearly impossible to drive about 85 yards with no timeouts. The percentages say you kick it deep there...and 9.999999 times out of 10 you don't recover that kick. Credit Pete Carroll for the decision. I think he felt the GB sideline was faulting under pressure and if they got the right match up on special teams, a GB player could (and he did) falter. He probably also knew they couldn't stop Rodgers, which until that point (proven by the late FG drive) he couldn't....so well....that's what made this game kick ass man. Amazing.
